More accurately, mineral/rock wool board vs fiberglass board insulation. I've used both many times, i'm currently treating my room(big time), i've had quite a bit of 703 used until now, based on a simple side by side comparison singing into a pair of boards test, I picked the roxul, and now i'm covering the walls with 2 layers of roxul rockboard 60, i'm finding there is a pretty big difference in sound. The rockwool seems to leave the higher air frequencies sounding controlled, but natural, where the fiberglass seems to gobble everything, when i stand with my back to the wall and sing everything sounds great(excluding my voice 8), when i turn in toward the rockwool, it sucks it up nice, but NOT the air, doing the same thing with 703 has killed everything. I suppose the later may serve in some situations?
Does anyone else have any direct comparison experience? i'd like to see if ya'll think i'm delusional in my belief that the rockwool actually sounds better and more natural.... i'm really liking what the rockwool is doing for the sound of my room.

I have both, but honestly I couldn't tell much difference in overall usage. I used mostly the softer mineral wool doubled up, because it was still a lot cheaper than 70x, while being more "friendly" to the studio environment, rather than the harder rockwool panels.
I do have a few hard rockwool panels that I played with and found they do not absorb highs as well as the softer stuff, even though the broad specs suggest they should. I chalk that up to the "binder" glue/cement they use to make these panels more rigid. I could see this causing a little more high end reflection, so I believe you are probably right in what you are hearing.
