I've been looking for a usable click generator for a long time, like the ones that were used in pro studios, only I could never find out what they were. The click in Logic is too quiet and doesn't cut through a busy backing track when overdubbing. Now I stumbled over this: metronomerGreat tool and I though it might be interesting for some here, if you don't know it already.

Not a huge fan of the decay on the click. Might accidentally throw me into a groove, haha. I usually use clave hits into a virtual drum sampler into whatever subdivision I need.

like the ones that were used in pro studios, only I could never find out what they were. Those were (are) Urei Click boxes. You can still find them used sometimes, but there are lots of samples of the Urei click out there. Main things you want for this type of sound : a dry, tight clipped attack, rolled off top end for reducing headphone bleed.

In the day, that studio click sounded like an icepick in my ear. I prefer a low-medium velocity side stick sample lately.

That Urei box looks pretty cool, now I gotta find one...

No problem man. The good thing about the Urei click is those guys knew what they were doing. It was designed in an era when there were a lot of musicians in the room with phones on, so it's made for minimal bleed. If you use the real deal, or get a good sample, there's a lot of "impact" in the sound, but not so much HF that it cuts thru in quiet sections and bleeds into mics - like the tail end of a quiet orchestra note with 60+ headphones going off. heh If there is bleed, it tends not to be as obnoxious.

Just found that there are two Urei 964 .wav samples included with Sonar (I have version 8 studio).

Thanks Wiz, I saw that too and installed it, but this is not the type of click I'm looking for. In this video, you can hear what I mean: KJRIASGo to around 5:50 minutes and you can here the click he plays to. That Urei box looks pretty cool though, has a nice 70s vibe...
