Hey all. I found out last week that I have a large brain tumor and I'm scheduled for brain surgery on Tuesday. I hope they can remove it and that I'll be ok, but I don't know.
Melissa, my partner wrote "Far Fetched Dream" when she was in the hospital with cancer and it's been very meaningful to us. Now, with my diagnosis, it's even more meaningful. Take a listen, watch the video, and share with friends. Live life to the fullest while you have the chance. We only get one life and need to make the most of it.
I'm hoping to make a full recovery and be playing again soon. Cross your fingers and comment something encouraging below. I love you all.

Jesse, sorry to hear. My Mom had brain tumor surgery about twenty years ago. Turned out benign, and she recovered with only slight side effects. I'm sure the procedures they do now are even more successful and sophisticated. Wishing you peace and blessings as you go through this.

Thanks guys. I wish I was a little more detailed in my post here. I’ve been so tired, worked part of the day yesterday, and was trying to update a million people.
Anyway, doctors think it’s a benign hemangioblatoma in the right cerebellum, about golf ball sized. The cerebellum is what controls motor function and unlike other parts of the brain, the right controls the right and left controls the left.
I started to notice that I was off on a couple drumming gigs in mid Sept. At the same time, I got very sick with the flu and was down and out with fever for 5 days and lingering aggressive cough for about a month. Over the next month and a half I played 10 gigs on drums and guitar. I’m still new at the guitar and mostly just strum, but a few songs we play have some riffs (like the riffs in the chorus of the song posted above. The last couple guitar gigs I couldn’t play the riffs at all.
Nov 2 I played another gig on the drums (my primary instrument) and felt like it was my first time playing. Had to play a bunch of parts as half time just to get through the gig. Nov 5 I went to Urgent Care and they said I had antibodies for Epstein Barr, which could have been causing the fatigue, but I knew it was something more because it was a dexterity issue more than fatigue. Nov 6 I went to the ER, was there all day, and finally they sent me for a CT scan to rule out a brain tumor. Sure enough, it was positive.
Surgery Tuesday. Doctors seen optimistic. Not sure when/if I’ll get all of my function back. Hoping for everything to go well.

It’s absolutely unbelievable the number of people that know someone that had a brain tumor removed and they’re ok. Super encouraging.

After things settle Jesse… Feel free to hit me up for some chess tips. Along with chess resources.
Turns out chess playing is beneficial for the cerebellum.. I teach someone with Cerebral Palsy and it helps with motor function. You’re in my thoughts and prayers, Chris
