well congratulate me boys !
I really just did the world's worst suck ass soldering patch cable build ever; BUT I plugged it in and it works !!
I ran my chair over a perfectly good neutrik cable and crushed one of the leads, decided to turn it into 4 patch xlr to trs cables as two ends are already factory done; right !
So, along with my beldon cable ,order I ordered a bunch of connectors to re do my patchbay and to get my 2 new Wa76's cozy.
just for fun when I opened up my old neutric cable it, of course, wasn't colour coded like the examples on its website: got to work for it !
anyway one done: a few more to go !

Man I was hoping for a picture! But I once opened the ends of a an intermittent cable to find one lead was tied with a piece of string to the terminal ! Wish we had phone cameras back then.

Nice! It looks like you have the filler strings going into the heat shrink? You can cut those flush with the shield. My only gripe with braided shield is un braiding them, I use a pick and carefully work it out then twist it back together into a "wire". It looks like you should be good, but you want the connector body to completely cover the gap in the shield.

My only gripe with braided shield is un braiding them, I use a pick and carefully work it out then twist it back together into a "wire". I've only soldered that kind of cable a few times, but that is exactly what I did too with a tiny jewellers screwdriver, and then soldered the twisted piece of shield to the ground of the connector. Perhaps I'm wrong but I can't see that on your pic kcatthedog

Its just the pic angle, the ground/shield was tinned as was the jack and they are soldered together, you just can't see it. I did cut away the filler/white braid so the leads and ground are clear, it just looks like the white filler extends into the contacts but it doesn't. I plugged both cables in directly, sending my Warm Audio tb12 out on tra to my WA76 on xlr in, both patched to my burl b2 ins so I can see and hear signal from mike all the way through the HW chain. All working fine, first time making cables using neutric it has good diagrams on its site and there are youtube videos. I soldered at 400 degrees with good solder, same as my mike builds. I am redoing patchbay cables so they are all same length and so I can continue to use my dbox and use my compressors (2 Wa76s and CL7802 ), as inserts for DAW channels and or grab Dbox sum out for mixbus compression before Burl B2 conversion and print. setting up patchbay and workflow may seem complicated but then you have a hybrid SW/plugs and HW system which is versatile. Personally, i feel HW still brings something extra to the table and I am focussing more on getting it right at source so I built the c12 and u47, use real pres and comps and then plugs only in the mix. I don't eq to print but move around/switch up mikes and position to find the tone sweet spot i want: old school ! With the great used gear market, diy 7 circle and 500 series stuff (jeff's) and lots of others, both including hi quality and powered chassis I am enjoying a hybrid system and you don't have to go nuts just buy selectively: you know only ALL the gear that selects you as its new owner: like kittens and puppies," ah look honey, its so playful and likes you, can we take it home, sure looks lonely: poor little guy !" its important to be compassionate not manipulative when making gear choices: trust me on this one !

OK - I thought I was DIY challenged... ^^this^^ loaves and fishes and then there were 9 and still more on the way ! View Attachmentfunny this all started cus I broke one good monitor cable and the cable thread here that included the connects thx Patrick, i have saved a lot of dough with your great deal on neutriks and by realizing I had a lot of wasted good cable already sitting here with half the job already done. I just had to cut cables in half or thirds and fire up the gun ! JK when can I expect your order ?
