Hello, First time posting, a bit stuck, I have a Akai Rhythm Wolf Drum Machine and it is working in a strange way. Hopefully someone has some ideas.
Analog drum machine. It has 4 drum voices and a bass synth voice. I can plug the "main out" in to a large speaker using a stereo 3.5mm jack lead, and the bass synth will shake the glass in the windows. The other voices (snare, hit hat, percussion) all sound clean and can be turned up very loud.
But! The kick drum distorts at very low volumes. This happens regardless of how the kick drum is tuned.
Also. . . If I plug my headphones directly into the "main out" (Sennheiser HD280 Pro) then the kick drum sounds great.
So in summary the kick drum sounds distorted and weak, when plugged in to a variety of powerful (consumer music speakers) but sound fine when listening with quality headphones.
Thanks in advance. W

is that main out 3.5mm jack a headphone out or line level (line level would be best)? And what kind of speaker? assuming it is a powered speaker of some sort? is that set to line level or mic (it should be line-level)? tell us more about the external speaker? also, this -- www.akaipro.com/rhythm-wolf.html says that the main out is a 1/4" output and the 1/8" jack (3.5mm) is a "gate trigger out" - got the right output connected?
