Anyone actually own one of these? Or used them extensively? Thoughts? Dirt cheap ($99) but Sweetwater reviews seems to like it OK. Right now I have a couple empty slots and free channels on my interface. I was thinking of using one of these for utility duty like a bottom snare mic (which will free up another pre I want to use elsewhere). I think it's just 5532 opamps so nothing really special but as long as its clean and not noisy I think it could work.

I know it's the opposite of sexy, but I'm sure it's adequate. I ordered one (I had some credit at Sweetwater) and I'll report back later...
edit: the reason I'm even considering it is that now that I have 32 inputs, I can leave my drum kit setup nearly intact - meaning I've got a lot of mics semi-perm on the drums because I do a lot of drum sessions and that could be at any time of the week, while many "band" recordings will be on the weekends (people with jobs and shit). I used to take photos of the settings and then attempt "recall" for the next drum session, because I had used some of the pres for other stuff. Now that I've got the 32 inputs, I can put some "utility" pres on a few things and move the good stuff out for use on other sources. So in this case I was using a Hairball Copper on the bottom snare mic - and then I would not always want to move it. But I want to use that for vocals and guitars more (I do have 3 of them though). Sure, I've patched stuff in (when I had only 16 inputs) but this makes it easier and as long as this new pre is quiet, clean gain, then I think it will be fine. I don't need a lot of "color" on my bottom snare mic. I'm sure I don't need it on hihat, ride, etc. either, so if it works out I might get another (but I only have one more empty slot). Or maybe I'll get another nice pre. BF is coming up...

I have one of their Bento 10 slot 500 series chassis and it’s great. It’s got lots of power, works like it should and hasn’t given me any problems. I wouldn’t be afraid of trying their other products.

got it today, did a before and after on "bottom snare" - I'm currently just using a 57. It honestly sounds about the same so I will be glad to have the Hairball Copper for something else (guitars, bass, vocals, etc.) - this was really my plan all along. Build-wise it's about what I expected. It's OK. The volume knob is a little small for my taste but I understand why (to make room for the LED meter - which is cool). Lots of LED "bleed" on the lighted buttons (for HPF, pad, +48, phase). I'd like to tell you I'll put it through it's paces, but tbh I won't. It will be on bottom snare duty for the rest of its miserable life. Sorry. It was $99 and it works fine. I might consider buying another but I only have one slot empty right now so I will probably put something nicer in that slot.

It does seem like a great option if you just need a channel for a talkback mic or something.
