Nah. All digital. Tape would have been fun but I knew that would add so much time. I did a million takes for each project. Of course now I’m parsing through like 8 hours of takes but it meant less running up and down those stairs for me. My friend Mark Rubel said to me "I'm doing a record at Electrical B, because I need the exercise" in reference to those stairs.

I'm not sure if the upstairs control room was done due to space concerns, or if it was done to emulate Abbey Road. Maybe Greg knows. I do know Steve really liked Abbey Road.

Which patterns did you use on the C24 and the SM2? And which did you prefer?

Both mics had caps in cardioid XY. I honestly love them both. I may just leave it all in there. The C24 was certainly brighter and the SM2 gave a better picture of the whole kit. If I had to choose one it would prob be the SM2

I just chose that as its closest to what I would normally work with. I’m not a big mid-side guy

Ok, I asked Greg and he said that they did it solely to maximize performing space. Makes sense.
It's like asking them "tape has magic, right?" and them answering "nah, it's just the most stable way of preserving recordings."
