Or a Mackie 1402 and Rode mics ... etc etc. Or a set of BAE pre-amps, Neuman, AKG, and Schoeps mics. It's drums, it's a player, it's gear, it's sound. It's budgets - it's preferences. |

A couple of years ago a big deal was made over Chad leaving Sabian, and then a week or two later becoming a Paiste endorser.
That set has ZERO Paiste cymbals.

Not a big Warm fan, but Chad Smith seems to be a very genuine, music loving drummer. He always sounds great. I was on a shared bill with the Chili's once, and he and Flea came over and stood right in front and watched our set and were super kind and (and only slightly intimidating!)

Well, in the video, Chad says he’ll be using this room to provide drum tracks to people. I was just poking the bear, cus we haven’t had a good verbal brawl here for a while and Johnkenn as ubermod is bored ! |

He definitely seemed pretty clueless about gear and microphones - more than I was expecting for a dude who's been playing on records for 40+ years! At one point they point out 'these are 414 style mics'... He said 'is that like a 421 or no?'  He also looked mortified when they said 'now we are going to show you how to mic up your guitar players'. Ha! I always feel a bit surprised when musicians genuinely have no interest in the recording process to the point they don't really even pick up passive knowledge along the way. Nothing wrong with that of course, just surprises me! |

Never been a big fan, but they are inspiring nonetheless. Perhaps that monomania is a good thing in this context. I’m glad I know how to record, but it definitely took time a way from playing my instrument and writing music. So it’s a trade off. |
