www.blackoceanaudio.com/product-page/7-sealed-monitorGuy offered me a good price on them. Not like I need new stuff but I’m always curious. He uses top of the line drivers and hand builds all the cabinets. I’d love to try them out next to my ATC scm12’s, but I don’t want a pair of speakers that I can’t resell if I end up with them and don’t really like them.

RETURN & REFUND POLICY All BlackOceanAudio products carry a 14 day trial period. Buyer must pay for return shipping. Refunds will be issued after the products are returned and inspected by Black Ocean Audio. Products must be returned in 100% working and cosmetic condition.
Is it $4,000 for the pair?

Yeah we talked about the return policy. He’s in Washington and I’m in Nj so shipping both ways won’t be cheap. Just more curious if anyone here who’s familiar with the specs thinks they will compete with ATC. I guess only one way to really tell, but these sure look appealing! I’m just afraid they’re basically unsellable if I keep them because no one really knows what they are.

I understand and agree. Are you not an Amphion fan, used pair in classified ?

Have you asked, what if you do a video review and he picks up half the shipping?

Gonna give them a shot…The ATC’s are really great but a little rolled off and smooth. Great for listening but I always have to check mixes on headphones and other systems. They kind of miss the micro details. Things like reverb tails and eq boosts/cuts are not as obvious as I’d like. I know I could go for something like an Amphion, but I always have to be different. Cant help myself lol.

I think the sealed cabinet will make a difference. I hope you bump this after you've had a chance to work with them.

they look a bit like sealed proAC's, they are not very sensitive so you're gonna have to throw some power at them, JMO i wouldn't touch a monitor that doesn't show a f response sheet

They’re pretty flat! $4k for the pair!? I was balking at $2k for the pair, no way would i buy these for that price, the cabinet construction looks shoddy af imo also, no offense to him but who is he?(reputation wise) I'd build those Roy4's for $3k, still expensive but you'd end up with a beast pair of wide axis monitors that you could use in the cutting room if nothing else

I'm going to build these for a number of reasons, we are building a new place and i use mainly analog gear with a console, a lot of rolling around in a chair and the control room isn't going to be an acoustic specimen for a good long while. The off axis response of the coax is killer when i'm rolling across the room and adjusting a compressor, if i can hear more accurately its a win. And like i said, if they don't work out in the control room they would be a wide off axis beast in the cutting room to play back for musicians in a session. The woofs on these are subs only, i'm also a big hypex fan and the dsp in this has 15 points of control so i can tailor them as i see fit

Probably nice book shelf speakers with a good amp. Not low enough response to be used for mixing IMO. Or you need to add a sub. For the price I'd have looked at these: www.css-audio.com/online-storeVarious options for type and kit type as well depending on your skills.

Cant help myself lol. you have the non-SL ATCs. They’re great speakers but a bit smoothed out as you describe. The SCM11/12 are bang for buck. The SL ATCs like the SCM 20 and 50 are exactly the opposite but the tweeter isn’t very “physical” and neither is the bass on the 20s. Better Dynaudio tweeters are a bit more physical and brighter. The Morel ones Quested used are darker than the ATC non-SL. Focal Alu-Mag have the metal dome IMD but are damped and dull. The Beryllium is lighter and faster than reality and you can really hear it with cymbals and guitar fizz. The current KRKs are in between. The current Genelec coax assembly is heavily limited. It doesn’t really sound bad, just has little headroom to prevent it from physically breaking. If you really want a sudden crack, horn loaded compression drivers will give it to you and provide the best translation to PAs but at the cost of reduced detail and tonal response. The JBL 7 series are great for this as are better Tannoys but the detail isn’t there. The only Tannoys with a lot of air are the ones from 15-20 years ago with the super tweeter. Good speakers. RIP. I check everything on HD 26 now, the cleaner successor to the classic HD 25 dj and broadcast can. It’s less wooly, less bass heavy, and more forward with reduced treble spike.

Since Madisound is now a Volt dealer get them to order a pair of BM200.8’s a pair of Morel CaT308’s have them build the crossover 35 liter cabinets with a 6cm long 50mm dia port equals -3 @ 45 call them son of Roger Quested much cheaper. This isn’t even me modeling anything this is from the BM200 data sheet. That simple

Hell we could do something really fun with the Volt 2 & the new Radial 10 !
