Alright, not my world, at all…
Studio owner has a set of old Habringer 3-Ways (18/12/Horn?) taking-up a ton of room in the studio. He’s determined to use them for the occasion a band wants to rehearse (has happened once in almost 5-years) and for when he gets a group of guys together to write (hasn’t happened in almost 5-years).
We’ve used the clunky old Rane crossovers and graphic EQs he has, but they’ve seriously driven me up the wall, taking me 3-4 hours to even get them to somewhat working and trying to dial-in anything somewhat useable the two times I’ve played it them. I’m positive they’re not working right!
In today’s world, what can I replace those 3 crossovers and 2 graphic EQs with? Something digital would be great. I sorta know the old dbx digital ones; that they existed is about it. Budget doesn’t really matter, but if it’s too much, I’d imagine it would be better for him to chuck those Harbingers! He was considering it long before we finished building the studio. Another pair of ATC 150s would be nice.🙃

My area so I’ll type till it hurts, ideal would be Lake box but working ones are insanely pricey. The drive rack 260 should do the job, I think the later ones can be append controlled. My all digital choice would be a Bss Blue 80 with an old laptop. Hybrid would be an Ashly protea with the protea front panel EQ.
For someone with soldering skills bss fds 360 with cards & an Ashly Analog EQ with big faders, small faders are impossible to dial in or really cheap white rotary graphics and a Furman 3 way x over it’s got limiters!

Thanks for the reply during your fit of pain!
The dbx and Ashly seem to the all-in-one, no brainer I was hoping for. Anything, even a laptop seems too cumbersome for as often as this’ll get used; and certainly any soldering.
So, what’s the real difference between the two? Just different brands offering the same? Or? How do I choose one over the other when prices are close-enough?

In you situation, the simpler, and most easy for you to remember seems key.

I’ll go one deeper than Doug Download the manuals & the PC control programs they let you edit off line One huge advantage of Bss Soundweb & London blue but disadvantage for some, you have compete control of what functions and order of functions you use, but they are black boxes have to use a PC to control. The Blu80 also has Cobranet so you can put a cobra net device and computer in control room run Cobranet on the PC, run cat 5 to amp rack also if you added say a cheap cobra net box to expand inputs and another at the amp rack to expand outputs you could build a mixer in the 80 and run cue mixes via cobranet.

Oh and the Blu80 has band pass delays is you want to do a bit of manual phase alignment might help those old Harbingers, haven’t worked with them in years but they really helped on a pair of old Turbosounds that someone had “ upgraded all the drivers” the owners words.
