Seems like an interesting way to get power out of an old computer. I'm not totally sure I'm understanding it though.
I'm thinking about upgrading from my Mac Mini M1 relatively soon. Would this allow me to set up my M1 to power Plugins/Effects/VI's in my DAW? And if so, does it add latency and how easy is it to do?
Note, I'm not a MH user but I am MH curious. I like that their ecosystem is upgradable, if I can also gain useful function out of my older computers that would be the sort of thing that could justify the hassle/cost of an interface switch.

I haven't used but have done some investigation, there interfaces are upgradable and more future proof than most and I like how the way their system integrates. SCP as far as I can tell is the ability to connect additional computers to an MH device via that device's USB port & use those computers as inputs to the MH MIO system as plugin or virtual instrument hosts. The MH interface connects vis ethernet to the host computer using MH Link. You can do something similar with any setup using Audiogridder audiogridder.com/

To be honest I've never really understood exactly how Audiogridder works either. But I'll probably have more success finding tutorials over there and I'm sure the same concept can apply to MH. For me Metric Halo is a bit of a solution in search of a problem (in my case). I don't really have an issue I'm trying to solve except that it would be nice to just not think about interfaces anymore. I like the idea of just putting a ring on Metric Halo and staying together through sickness and health, haha. I was on the Apollo system before, now I'm on MOTU system. Works great, but I could probably swap out my 828ES for an MH LIO with an ADAT card for a reasonable amount after selling the 828. Then I'd run my AO 24 and Cranborne 500ADAT out of that. I'd still need to stay in the MOTU universe in my tracking room, just too much I/O to afford a switch. But the money channels are recorded in the mixing room anyway.

I’m a Metric Halo user. It’s an incredibly flexible system. I haven’t used SCP as I haven’t needed to but I have an understanding of how it works. You connect the MH box to the main computer via Ethernet using their own MH link protocol ( this is how I connect my 2 ULN-8 mkIV) then the usb port is free to connect any device that can act as a usb host, it doesn’t have to be a computer , it could be an iPad or something like an MPC. You can then route audio directly from this device into the MH console and from there route it to wherever you want….your DAW, any bus or output etc.
There’s a very large thread on the purple site called “Metric Halo 3D is here” . Metric Halo are very active on the thread and always seem to answer any questions users have. I know SCP has been discussed on that thread.

I completely get the "put a ring on it" thing. Pick a system and stick with it, provided you have trust in said system. And Metric Halo would definitely meet such a trust level. They seem to support and develop things longer than just about anybody. Can't say that for some other companies. I just wish MH made a 16 channel interface. For my I/O needs, I'd need too many of their 8 channel interfaces.
