Used to be you needed something that could generate a DDP, but for the most part no one takes those now. I thought that's the only thing they take (if you're actually manufacturing CD's).

They take .wavs now but if you want everything to be right and set the gaps up how the artist wants, you better make the DDP yourself.

Most people aren’t making 1000 CD’s anymore, it’s short run burns, and the same people who take DDP for replication won’t take them for short runs.

Cdbaby still stakes ddp to print cds(discmakers). Which is what every small client I have worked with uses.

Anyone ever mess with Sequoia? I know someone who uses it. Seems super spendy. Here I switched to SEQUOIA in 2018. It is a fantastic system with unique capabilities that no other daws have. Principally I'm talking about the object based processing whereby the engineer can apply a plug-in, an EQ, a limiter, reverb, anything etc. to only a specific part of a track. The processing attached to the object will take hold in real time each time the track is played.
Besides that special function, SEQUOIA sounds noticeably better than other daws due to superior program coding. I also have SADiE here for many decades and even though SADiE is superb, SEQUOIA is noticeably better sounding--as in more accurate to the source.
The edit window in SEQUOIA is the best ever and is just as good as Pyramix, Sonic Solutions, SADiE and other top EDITING windows.
Magix has restructured their pricing and I recently bought another copy of V.17 for $750. There is also a month to month rental available.
SEQUOIA is a very deep program that takes a good bit of time to learn but once it is in the engineer's mind and fingers, it is the best I have used.
It is essential for classical work here but also does all the heavy lifting for complex pop music mixes.

This intrigues me. Are those of you saying it sounds better saying if I recorded the same exact performance in pro tools and sequoia they wouldn’t null? Or once the audio is in some way processed by the internal sound engine it sounds better? Would a render of a track with no plugins sound better or only when using the higher bit depth plugins in the daw?

Thanks for the Sequoia half off heads up. I've been using Samplitude which kept me mostly compatible with buddy using Sequoia but this is now better. Even with the pain of running Parallels Samplitude/Sequoia is worth it.

Sonic Foundry is now Sound Forge I think. Anyway, because I have used Wavelab for so long, I have stuck with it.
