Agree 100%. Just release it when it's ready. Not everything needs a bunch of online speculation.
It's better than the release strategy of that one bizarre plug-in over on the purple site, that I'm too lazy to go look the name up of, which was only sold for the period *before* it was announced what it even did in terms of functionality. People were asked to purchase it without even knowing whether it was a compressor or a reverb lol. And, people did.

So they did the right thing then? I mean.. A boat is of absolutely no use in audio.

I gotta say - I really dislike this marketing strategy. It’s like they are trying to build excitement but it does the opposite for me. Just drop the product you’ll get more interest that way. I greatly dislike being treated like a child .... "if you're good we'll tell you what your surprise is little Tenor!"
F*ck that.
This is going to be a seriously expenive tool for professionals - when it's ready to sell - sell it.

I'm not even a sales guy and 'm pretty sure it's not the best idea to pre-announce so early (besides being incredibly annoying to everyone else). Anyone that might have been on the fence about buying some Burl gear is now going to wait until this new thing comes out (if/when it does) so they'll be holding onto that money until it does (vs buying now). Or worse case, they see something else in the meantime, change their mind, and then never purchase the Burl gear at all. It ain't rocket surgery. But I've never been in sales/marketing so what do I know?

Judging by the number of posts here, if their goal is to get attention then it looks like their marketing strategy is working decently...

Had they kept quiet, and just released the info when ready, they would’ve avoided creating distrust in the community. Contrary to popular belief, there is such a thing as bad publicity, especially when it can damage your credibility.

Meh. Trust and credibility come from years of delivering quality products and support. Marketing is just wind.
FWIW, rarely does any company wait til a product is released before promoting it. I'm having a hard time finding the harm done here. To anyone.

Man, the internet is a tough room. Sure is. I bet if there was no advance promotion then when it dropped someone would complain they wish they had a heads up about this.

Early cryptic / no info introductions do a favor for absolutely no one. The manufacturer’s PR guy will tell you “ we are creating buzz, your getting calls isn’t that what you want?” I want to sell stuff buzz don’t pay the bills! If there is no info everyone is calling everyone hoping someone has some information, unfortunately what happens is someone talking out their ass becomes gospel and in the end lots of disappointment. Worse someone will take an order based on a “projected cost, so everyone starts taking orders based on that price that may or not be real. I once got to give a CEO of a very large earful after he handed us all a very y informative announcement. He was pissed because I was selling gear not his vapor wear. “ I can’t sell what doesn’t exist, I can’t qualify without real info! If I play wait and see with fing everything because if I do my shipping guys don’t get paid.” I have your old product on the shelf ? You going to give us credit because I need to move it.
Only thing as a manufacturer you can do that is just as dumb is center everything about your introduction at NAMM AES etc. The world isn’t all at the show! People want the info about what’s on the web that’s announced at the show! THINK FOR A SECOND IF IM AT THE SHOW IM NOT RETURNING PHONE CALLS!!!
Now think How stupid you as a manufacturer look when I tell the customer I know & no dealer knows anything they don’t know because you the manufacturer didn’t tell even one of the top 5 dealers a damn thing! Understand your clients are not as stupid as you the manufacturer, they exist in the real world of business especially at the top end, they know BS and they don’t like it!

I'll pile it on for either side but if I recall correctly, it will be out late first week of October.
Considering the quality of the Mothership as it is now and that the current cards are compatible, wouldn't stop me from buying a card I need. YMMV. I'm a Burl fanboy though so disregard if annoyed by marketing.

If they offer a Thunderbolt Motherboard option, I'll be fighting the urge to buy Me too - Honestly I'm feeling very hopeful that it is a mothership update and that the connectivity options are expanded. Right now I'm running MADI through a RME madiface usb and while it works just fine I'd find the prospect of lower latency pretty compelling. I sometimes look at the DAD AX64 and get a little lecherous...
