Thinking about picking one up for an EP I'm working on for a client. I figure the studio could use some cool percussion. I don't know much and don't have the bandwidth to research right now. Anyone have any recommendations?

had a drummer that used them with us, but don't remember his brand. Was definitely a cool add.
sorry I can't be a help but wanted to reply and give a thumbs up - an awesome idea and good luck on the search.

Oh wait... some of you guys need a link to L A T I N P E R C U S S I O N So you don't have to type it out in your duckduckgo.com or google.com search bar.

In most cases the cajon should be silent.

I saw a ton at GC this weekend. They make them out of different woods now... Getting fancy. LP is always a great solution for percussion.
You would think that this group would be all over these for acoustic music.

Yeah, tough room. Apparently no love for the cajon.

Any of the Meinl cajons have worked well for me, even the $100 model.

Yeah, tough room. Apparently no love for the cajon. [br It's the fashionable percussion instrument of the day, banjo depot and everybody else has a ton of LP in every kind of wood. Best to go bang a few and see what trips your fancy. Maybe tomarrow it will be the cowbell, I got the fever for some more cowbell.

In most cases the cajon should be silent. That is mean, but kind of true... Not because it's a bad instrument, but because there are so many kids that pick it up, thinking it's a cool sound, and just fire on with no clue. So I've grown pretty tired of it lately because of that. I mixed an album a while ago featuring Rhani Krija who uses the cajon in his own hybrid setup (skip to 4.55)

I ended up getting a Kopf birch series snare cajon. I paid a little over 2 bills, but it's supposedly one of the better ones. Plus it's made in the USA. Maybe I'll post the track once I'm finished.
