Looks really cool. Out of my price range for what is really a convenience tool in my case, but this is more up my alley than the desktop one. I don't really like a lot of stuff on my desktop and I could rack this right under my monitor.

Pretty specifically aimed at the pro broadcast market at that price(plus a subscription to be used with broadcast gear).
The Streamdeck XL has just as many buttons for 1/3 the price. So Don't see a lot of mixers picking it up.

Would be cool paired with a Dutch Audio mastering console.

I love my Stream Deck XL .... Sits right next to my Avocet Controller and makes using Cubase incredibly fast. If I ever start "Tenor FM Radio" .... then one of these rack mounts one would be great

Off topic a bit, but I don't quite "grok" the usefulness of the stream deck - is it just a set of programmable quick keys that speeds up a workflow, or is there more depth to it than that?

If you are willing to take a deep dive into SoundFlow you can really speed up your workflow with a Streamdeck. If there’s certain task you do often that take multiple steps you can create your own quick keys to make those just a single click on the Streamdeck instead

Way more in depth for me using Cubase 13. All the hot keys can be copied and pasted to custom pages (sets of 32 short cuts) Elgato have written custom Stream Deck macro's for launching your VI's So I have my most VI's on my main page and I can open an instance of Kontakt 7 literally at the touch of a button. Additionally, you can mix in Windows (OSX) shotcuts. So I have a button to open and close RME Total mix - a button to open my back-up folders - and even a button I press that starts a customisable timer to remind me to get up and walk about every 45 mins. I would hate to have to work without my Stream Deck XL - wish I'd bought one years ago!

Other than when timeline editing, I don't hardly touch my mouse or keyboard at all anymore. I've got basically all of Luna's shortcuts programmed to SD buttons, and also a ton of macros written which assign the vast majority of functions in Luna to a SD button. Navigation. Opening/closing plugins. Whatever.
Stream Deck is super useful. I don't use Soundflow though with my SD though. In my case I use Keyboard Maestro.

Yeah, you can totally set up macros that could pull various pieces of hardware into or out of your signal chain, and assign those to buttons on the rackmount Stream Deck.

I bet this will be very affordable on the used market in a year or two. Seems like the type of thing that I'll end up buying for $400 on Craigslist eventually.

I have to say that Stream Deck XL has me curious. I do like having shortcuts and macro under a single button press. I hate menu diving in Nuendo. For years, I've been using TouchOSC on an Android tablet. I have made many layouts and it works very very well. But, sometimes I wonder about having tactile buttons instead of a touch screen.

I know you said you don't like a lot of stuff on your desk, but I will say that, with the SD XL, I can basically just place the SD in a comfortable location for my arm, and then just leave my hand resting on the SD. It's super fast when your hand basically doesn't ever leave. You can access a lot of buttons very quickly that way.

I have it placed so I just move my hand a small amount and I'm on the SD.

Doing a lot of podcast type stuff lately and using hotkeys on my keyboard is clunky at best.

It's super fast when your hand basically doesn't ever leave. You can access a lot of buttons very quickly that way. I've been considering it. Doing a lot of podcast type stuff lately and using hotkeys on my keyboard is clunky at best. Here's one of many pages I have set up. Navigation to different pages is on the right side (three columns), and then the individual functions that each page provides is on the left side (five columns). Having the same three columns of navigation buttons found on nearly all pages allows for muscle memory and easy navigation from one page to the next without really ever having to do menu diving. You can always get to any particular page without having to think about it and do menu diving. I just really hate menu diving, so I made it my mission to eliminate it as much as I could on my Stream Deck. This particular page is for opening/closing plugins and manipulating said plugins. So if you were resting your hand on the SD, you can sort of see how one could quickly hit buttons to do the things you want, and then navigate to other pages to do other things.

Maybe it's time to start fiddling with the iOS version to see if I want to drop the dough on a physical unit.

Maybe it's time to start fiddling with the iOS version to see if I want to drop the dough on a physical unit. Yeah, that's what I've recommended that other people do. You can demo it on your iPad and see how it treats you. That said, the tactile thing was a big selling point for me. I like real buttons that I can feel by touch, without necessarily having to look at the SD to know that I'm pushing the right button, which you would have to do if using SD on an iPad. But it's still a good way to at least see what you think without plunking down the $200 on the XL. I'd definitely get the XL though, if you do decide to get a physical SD at all. The extra buttons on the XL are worth it, and allow for setting up persistent navigation buttons while still leaving enough buttons leftover for actual functions. With the smaller 15 key SD, nested page folders would kind of be unavoidable, and result in some menu diving.
