Just noticed Soyuz has already some time ago released a slightly more affordable version of their SDC's. Anyone having opinions regarding them? how they stand against the 013 or other high end SDC's? Since the 1973 has become my go to in so many cases I thought these 011s might be something I could be interested in. All the clips I have heard so far on youtube they seem to deliver. There has not been much raving or written about them though what I can see.

I’ll link my video on them below, as well as Scott’s TapeOp review (which is spot on, I agree with everything he said). I’m really surprised more people are not talking about them, my video didn’t really get many hits either. These aren’t “Soyuz made a tiny/cheaper small cap”, they’re really not all that much cheaper than the 013’s. They probably ended up cheaper because the machine work on the body was smaller/easier and there isn’t a transformer in there.
I think they compliment the 013’s really well. Definitely worth having both at some point. The 011’s still have that nice Soyuz midrange, but they’re not as colorful as the 013’s. I knew the 013 was a colorful mic, but it’s pretty eye opening how extreme it is when you have the 011 next to it. The 011 is much clearer and a little more accurate (but not clinical by any means). The low end is more controllable and realistic on the 011. The top end is more articulate and open, but still smooth when compared to a km184.
The size is nice and small, easier to cram into tight spaces. I haven’t really had a chance to try them on drums yet, but I’m guessing they’ll do well on toms and snare. They do really well on my old Kawai grand piano that’s darker sounding. I’ll absolutely loving them on quieter finger picked guitar, there’s a reason the first sound clip Soyuz released was a classical guitar.
A great addition to the lineup, a good alternative to the 013 as well. I’m digging them!

andersmvJust listened to your comparison files. Thanks for these I'd missed them. I really like the 011 on acoustic guitar! It feels like it would fit in a mix with no eq whereas the 013 would need a bit of carving to leave room for the vocal, particularly recording a mid heavy guitar like the J45. On the piano again, in the context of a pop or rock mix the 011 would probably fit better, though for solo piano work or a song with sparse arrangements those 013 really add a nice vibe!

tapeop.com/reviews/gear/162/011-fet-sdc-mic/ Thank you, yes I actually find your video and it is the best comparison out there I've come across and pretty much the one I am going by to differ them. My main use would be acoustic guitars and probably j45s most of the time as that is what I usually end up recording. I could imagine using them as drum overheads at times replacing my ribbon overheads. They absolutely live in the same aesthetics voicing wise. But there is a clarity to the 011 which is probably due to the lack of mid boominess of 013 rather than a different top end voicing. For singer songwriter tracking I kind of like the sound of the 013 better, I kind of enjoy that bottom end, while in a denser mix the 011 would likely sit nice with less eq. I've wanted the 013 for a long time but haven't stretched the wallet for it and now as I saw the 011 I kind of got struck by the price. I really have to think this thru and figure out if the 013 is worth extra for the transformer and that sweet mid push. The thing all and all is, that I do not have much neutral gear and I am not in the situation of needing to get a wide palette. My studio is a one trick pony, so all gear only needs to fit that vibe. Therefor the 013 could fit well from that perspective... but the price of the 011 is nice and still has the Soyuz vibe.

Email Soyuz and set up a demo, they'll be more than happy to send you a pair of both to try out for a while side by side. I think after using them for a few days, you'll figure out pretty quickly which ones you want to start with.

That sounds like a good plan… but do they send overseas? I might have a retailer closer that might lend me a pair to try out.

In what I have heard in shootouts, I think I prefer it to the 013s. The 013s always sound a little too dull/thick in the murk zone for what I want out of an SDC. The 011s seem to sound great, though.

Just put in the order on a matched pair of 011s. I have a singer songwriter project now waiting for their arrival. So I will take the risk and throw them into real action straight from the box as they arrive and hope for the best But I feel actually quite confident in doing that from all the clips I've listened to so far....

My 011FETs arrived and today I put them to use. They are amazing, nice body and sweet top end. Been tracking acoustic guitars so far with them. These are absolute keepers. Tracked acoustics with these and vocals with 1973 and they sit with each other tonally like they’d be married.
EQ wise some high passing at 80hz and a LA2a a few dB GR and the J45 was covered.
These are absolute bang for the buck and punches way above their price range. Couldn’t be happier👍
