I really love the UAD Motown EQ .... it's brilliant on so many sources - super easy to dial in and to my ears super musical.
I would love a hardware version ....
Are there any clones?
I know Retro do an EQ (23A) but I've always thought of that being more in the Pultec camp.

To Quote every looney tunes “ Acme”! The $6500 price is a bit looney.

If you’re a “poor” and don’t have $6k, I would be looking at the Heritage unit.

I think Orphan Audio floated the idea, saying they had all the parts and the drawings, and that it would be expensive. Don’t know if any were built.

If you’re a “poor” and don’t have $6k, I would be looking at the Heritage unit. But will it be better than the UAD plugin! IME budget hardware clones sometimes aren't any better than carefully coded plugins. One major exception being Audioscape! I'm not saying the Heritage unit isn't better than the UAD plugin - it's just something I'd have to do an ABX on. Getting a demo of the Heritage unit would actually be easy for me as my main dealer has a couple of demo units.

The UAD Hitsville Motown EQ has become my go to for vocals. Thus my thinking the hardware would be even better.

The Langevin 7 band graphic was our favorite eq, but it cost $700 in 1965. The settings weren't very reliable so we were given a budget of $700 in parts to build something more reliable.

The 252A is one of my favorite EQs and, sonically, one of the best ever in my book. Years ago, I bought it for what now is a major steal. I have to agree the sliders give me a bit of pause, I baby them quite a bit. So I can see why Bob and co. modified the design. But the curves are as musical as it gets.
For make up gain, I use whatever line amp / gain stage from my compressors makes sense for the material.

The Heritage sounds nice! It's a cool tracking/vibe eq. I'm not a huge fan of the top band.

Motorcity eq user here, highly recommend them. 7 octaves to play with, very musical, broad strokes, channels or busses. Mojo city ! Physically not shallow, yet particularly heavy. Definitely not a Pro-Q3 !
