Have been working overtime. I noticed Nfuse and now Noise Ash had to change the look of their emus. I get it…but it looked prettier before.

Send lawyers guns and money. And a GUI designer.
Cheers, Geoff

their plugins are ugly now, especially the Nfuse (which I like a lot). They don't sell enough machines at Neve anymore to waste time with this? They're stupid because NFuse just makes me want to buy the machine (except I can't afford it).

Nah they kind of have to sue them, see part of patent law is that you must rigorously defend your patent in order to keep those rights. So if you don’t go after the guy who’s GUI is an obvious clone, the next guy who makes a clone of your hardware can say “ nope you relinquished your patent or trade dress rights when you didn’t go after the plugin guys.”

Very interesting. Kinda like if you don't maintain a piece of your property and someone else does, they can make a claim on it. Like if there's a portion of your yard that you don't mow but your neighbor does, they have a good chance of getting that added to their property. Mow your damn lawn!!!

Yeah I have told JK this story but our former neighbor and grandmother of one of the kid’s classmates is a appellate lawyer who only takes cases over like $35 million, her father his a famous IP lawyer between that and dealing with manufacturers who had to fight Uli you pick up a lot.

I mean, it they wanted to do their own plugin, I get it...but you're right, the plug has made me want the hardware...now I'm kinda turned off.

Steinberg and RND did make their own version of the 5033. This seems like a very reasonable cease and desist. Fwiw, the 5033 hardware is definitely worth owning…it’s too bad they are no longer in production. I’d be surprised if a new parametric-type RND didn’t show up at some point. I’ve also always wanted to try out the Hutch-designed 4 band eq on the Portico Channel Strip. Maybe one of those designs will reappear 🤞.

Didn’t Hutch do the Massive Passive and work on the Waves Renaissance EQ too? Both legendary.

Wasn’t aware of the Renaissance, but definitely the Massive Passive, and I’m 99% that the RND Master Buss Processor is on that list, too. He’s a real one.

I still love my RND5043 compressors. I really like all the RND stuff I've tried for the most part, except for the 511 preamp was sort of "just fine" for me though - definitely a high-end offering in terms of the sonics but it still has "a sound" staple that is not my favorite...but I have a friend who basically sees the 511 as his #1.
For me, it's no issue at all that they protect their IP. I hope RND lasts well into the future and keeps its high-end status (unlike Focusrite, for example, which now almost exclusively focuses on interfaces for the multitudes as opposed to the utmost of quality and has nearly given up on analog domain).
