I have one guitar that always just does it for me. Every time I get it out and play it after not playing it for a long time, it just soothes my soul. It's my 62 white and gold SG Custom. I bought it in 1975 for $275 and it's the best purchase I have made in my life for anything. It's the guitar that made me a player because I couldn't put it down. There's no way of estimating the number of actual years that thing has spent in my lap or hung around my neck. In this case, SG stands for Sexy Girl to me. I had it refretted back in the 90s because it was unplayable due to massive wear and tear. The frets were gone. It sat in the case in the closet for about 15 years. When I got it back after the refret I played it and it truthfully brought tears to my eyes. It felt so comfortable and familiar I hadn't realized how much I missed it until it was playable again. Then there's the sound. My GOD!!! The PAF pickups in that guitar are just magical. Not-to-mention the guitar, unplugged, is loud and resonant, More than any other solid body I have and I have a bunch of them. It is far and away the most stable guitar I have. I moved from the deserts in Phoenix to the ultra humidity of Tennessee and didn't even have to adjust the truss rod. It played, and plays, wonderfully and I still haven't had to make a neck adjustment after 10 years in Tennessee. 6.7 pounds of pure delight for me. Does anyone else have that one special guitar that just does it for them? I know I'm nerding out here but I feel I am in good company with others here that do as well. i.postimg.cc/DyhdsYBS/63-SG-Custom.jpg

Beautiful. I am quite fond of my first Tstyle partscaster with Fred Stuart pickups. Oddly has developed some fret sprout after fifteen years of not. Anyhow, the neck is great, sounds like a great Tele should, body dimensions slightly off. Whatever.
Cheers, Geoff

A local amateur guitar builder made a turquise telecaster out of an old wooden table, which I bought.
It is not 'perfect', but perfect for me. The point I want to get to is that it feels special to me because I actually know who made it and it is therefore more close to me.
I think many can relate to how experiences and people in relation to gear and instruments can strengthen a connection and love for it.

The sunburst is a 2012 Fender AVRI 62 Custom Tele that I bought new and love. Just feels and sounds great. Only mod is an Electrosocket jack and an Ilitch noise-canceling pick guard. The green guitar is my Gumby guitar - a partscaster I made in '94 when I would have loved a Schechter Pete Townshend model, but they were long gone by then. Warmoth alder body, Stew Mac Birdseye maple neck. Duncan 59 in neck, and a JB in the bridge, with push pull knobs for coil splitting. It's the perfect Tele Paul before Fender made their version. The 85 Squier Tele was the first good guitar I got after an Electra MPC Les Paul copy. Over time lots of mods. It's the travel guitar now if I'm flying to a reunion show, etc. as if it gets damaged I'm OK.

I have a ‘90 or 91 Strat Deluxe Plus that I bought brand new that always feels like home. It’s been my main gigging electric guitar for all this time.

I am still looking for my keeper J45/50/SJ. I don’t think it’s going to be Gibson. We shall see.
Cheers, Geoff

1981 Squire JV Strat.
An early 4xxx serial number made in Japan in 1981.
I bought it for £100 over 25 years ago. It's old and beaten up and I've left it that way - it looks great!
I have never played a Strat or any other SSS type guitar that sounds or plays as beautifully as my 81 JV.

A strong candidate for "That One" finally arrived yesterday. 1973 Fender Tele: Love it. I have a 76 in the same color, but it has a maple neck and a B Bender. I also recently bought a 62 Jaguar that I love as well. Very different guitars, both very special to me.

[…] I have a 76 in the same color […] Nice! I'm really not sure what the colour actually IS. It is close to blonde, but it is not translucent at all, so there's no grain showing, and where it's worn on the edges it is a lot closer to whitish. So I'm starting to think it could be an Olympic White with a clear coat that has gone super yellow over the years. Either way, it plays great. My only complaint is that both pickups are quite microphonic, so I think I'll abandon originality and give them a wax bath.

Same conclusion here, I believe mine is Olympic white that has yellowed with age.

Either J45 or Southern Jumbo. I played one at NAMM in 2020 and still think about it, easily a top 5 guitar I've ever played. They're starting to get cheap (< $3500) on the used market.

I am more of a Bass player then a guitarist but I need to dabble o the guitar at times. Being a bass player I just love Swamp ash basses. So I jumped at the chance of grabbing this rare USA PRS solid Swamp Ash hand carved top. Having never used the 85/15 pickup configuration i was really impressed with the combo of sounds it produced. I am a big fan of the HFS/Vintage bass combo but I think I have found a better alternative. The neck feel on this more modern CE24 is not quite as special as my pre 1994 CE guitars but I think thew overall sound compensates for that. IMG_5720 by BEANAT19, on Flickr

I think I'm gonna sell my 1966 Fender Esquire. It's amazing but I have 18 Telecasters and never use it. If anyone wants to get themselves something very special for Christmas.
