but isn't that for virtual instruments only (i.e., plugins)? or at least that's what I believe I read...

Can’t say, don’t work for UA or use Luna: sorry.

I mean...that's what a "multi-output instrument" is: a VI with the ability to output to more than just a stereo track. Think about Superior Drummer: if you don't have a "multi-out" instance, then you're stuck with the whole thing coming up on a stereo track vs. having each element come up on its own channel in your DAW to process however you like.

From what I can tell, this seems pretty well thought out. I personally won't get much use out of it, but those that were wanting multi outs in Luna should be pretty happy. It looks really simple and elegant to use.
Hardware inserts is still the thing that I'm mostly waiting for. Funny thing is, UA sent out some emails announcing this new Luna update, which spoke of hardware inserts in the email. That was apparently done in error though. Drew tried to do his usual gaslighting thing and pretend like the email wasn't actually talking about hardware inserts, but it seems pretty clear that it was.
So while I dislike the "treat your customers like idiots" approach, I do like that it seems like HW inserts were maybe actually going to be released today, but then hit a snag, and somebody forgot to rewrite the emails, in which case I'm hoping we might finally get HW inserts very soon.

I’m willing to give it a try once they release hardware inserts.

LOL. Racing towards 1998....... UA is certainly not without their faults. Same can DEFINITELY be said for Avid. But one of the things I like about Luna is its relatively streamlined workflow, which can be at least partially attributed to the fact that Luna's not carrying around the bloat of a DAW like Pro Tools, which has been around since 1998...

I saw this email and got REALLY excited, assuming it meant I could FINALLY output to multiple hardware outputs inside the Apollo Console App during tracking sessions. Ya, nope...
Congratulations Luna, you can do yet another standard DAW thing.

I saw this email and got REALLY excited, assuming it meant I could FINALLY output to multiple hardware outputs inside the Apollo Console App during tracking sessions. Ya, nope... Congratulations Luna, you can do yet another standard DAW thing. I think UA showed their cards with that email announcing multi-out VIs. The reference to hardware inserts in that email, plus the context of how the email was worded, seem hard to ignore. UA has acknowledged that hardware inserts are high on the list of requested features, so I'm cautiously optimistic that Luna will finally have it soon. It's annoying that it's taken so long to get the HW inserts feature added but, once it is added, Luna will feel mostly complete for my needs, beyond possibly some upgrades to the comping and file management features. That said, it was always confounding why UA chose to release Luna as they did, without already having some of these basic features from day one. I mean, in 2008, when Tesla first was introduced, people wouldn't have bought those cars if Tesla said "Our cars don't have air conditioning or cruise control yet, but we'll get them added in a few years, so just bear with us.". I guess because Luna is "free", UA thought this would be okay. In any case, with hardware inserts (once they come), I think Luna will be starting to finally feel like it's moving in the direction of maturity.

I think Luna is great.
I have never been happier…..

It really shouldn’t take over 5 years to have the most obvious of abilities, to patch in outboard gear: what had UA never heard of this bold innovation ?

LOL. Racing towards 1998....... a DAW like Pro Tools, which has been around since 1998... Closer to 1990. I'll take the "bloat" thank you. . Actually, PT seems extremely streamlined compared to some of the other DAW's. I have not seen Luna so can't comment on it's bloat or lack thereof.

As you said, you haven't used Luna (and clearly don't ever intend to), so it seems that the only apparent reason you had to come into this thread in the first place was to throw a little smug Pro Tools "superiority" and LOLs around...

Well wiz, for a company that cut its eye teeth making outboard gear and never shuts up about how it’s software environment so perfectly recreates the analog recording experience, inserts should have been job 1 ?
