I’m sitting in the bathroom watching your video & the kid runs in asking “ where did you find a version where the lyrics are so clear?” He thought it was ELO!
Great job!

If the Lemon Twigs ever need a ringer to go on tour with them, you should be the guy.

Nice job. I want that song to open a record of cover songs I want to do. I don't think I'll be able to have the exacting standards you display, but that won't stop me from having fun.

Man, I imagine you learn sooo much from this. If I wanted to really become a better producer, (and I was independently wealthy) I would do something like this for a whole year.

Nothing like having an exact reference to work towards. I'm with you, I'd spend all day working on stuff like this if I could but that wouldn't be very financially responsible! haha

Very nice work! Compared with the original my (not important) opinion is that the original is more cohesive and your version has more detail ... but if these details are necessary is something else. Anyway the educational value and insight into production you offer is outstanding and in my world would earn you a medal or a knighthood, a lifelong grant or something. And you give that away for a tip, oh boy. Big! Hug! I wish we had teachers like you in music class.

Jeff Lynne's fans go from the ordinary public to Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh ....
He's very much the musician's musician - an amazingly creative guy.
I love this song - I enjoyed watching your video - it sounds great .... well done!

Incredible work! Very inspiring. Would you mind sharing what you used as far as pre's and mics? Did you record all of the past videos with the same gear? Or did you try to match the era's a bit.

So I have a pretty limited of supply of mic's and pre's, actually. Most of the condenser mics are DIY clones, like the U47 for vocals or the KM84 clones I used for the overheads, piano, etc. For dynamics I have mostly SM57's (one 70's Unidyne III model which is absolutely worth the extra investment specifically for electric guitar duties) but also a D12 for the bass drum. My go to preamp for most things is the Great River ME-1nv (vocals, guitar, etc.) and then I have a hodge podge of other pres from CAPI, Black Lion Audio, etc. I love the idea of using period specific gear though and maybe some day that'll be possible but right now I'm just using what's available

That's amazing. I hope you get to use whatever gear you wish for in the future, look forward to hearing what you come up with. For now, using what's available seems to be working like a charm. Performance is king, as you eloquently show us.
