Anyone have one? We just got one in and it looks like a great recording console. Anyone know what a used one will go for these days?

I have one and use it all the time. It's essentially a controller (a HUI) with a decent sub-mixer, many monitoring capabilities and a really great transport control for a DAW (especially Pro Tools).
The preamps in it are skut.

The preamps in it are skut. Yeah, it seems to sync up with Pro Tools with absolute flawless performance. Pretty impressive. Haven't had a chance to test out the preamps. Will have to give them a go at some point.

Prepare to be EXTREMELY disappointed with them. I would avoid them like the bubonic plague.
BTW, new they ranged from 14 to 15K. Used they're now about about $5 - 7k in good condition.

Its a VAST improvement over the Control 24. best, Sean

If the preamps are what I think they are (octopre range stuff) then the preamps are just fine, clean and quiet but maybe there's something I'm not aware of regarding this thing. I used to use a Control 24 and was never impressed with it. Personally I think it's awfully expensive for a controller and if I had 5k to burn for a controller it would be going towards a Raven MTi.

Well (Jordo) @jordanvoth, (Sean) sofaking and I both own and use them. Believe me, the preamps are skut! Totally useless. The monitoring section isn't bad. Not fantastic but not bad. You have to watch you don't overload the submixer and watch the gainstaging, else your mixes won't truly sound like what's coming out of the C|24's monitoring module. The transport and editing controls are fantastic and fully integrated with Pro Tools.

Hey ward,
Are they noisy or something? Does anyone know if they are indeed the Octopre range preamps?

I was sitting in with an engineer named Michael Roric in Buffalo New York he was recording a jazz group with a female vocalist using nothing but the C 24 and it sounded absolutely fantastic. He used the preamps and they were clean and quiet of course he was using top-notch Mics. I couldn't believe it because when you read all these forums it seems you can only get good sound with outboard preamps. He told me that day to stop reading forums all day and work on your craft because it is an exciting time in making music with all the cheap great gear.

Imagine how great it've sounded if he used a rack of great pres 8) I don't care what anyone says, with an unpro rig, u are not going to touch an equal talent with a pro rig. Gear matters.

Hey ward, Are they noisy or something? Does anyone know if they are indeed the Octopre range preamps? If they are the octo pre range preamps, then the octo pres blow pretty bad. They easily distort...I mean, like REALLY easily. They sound brittle in the top end. The HPF should be renamed the 'suck the life, body and soul out of your source' filter.

I never heard any of these things out of my Octopre, colourless and quiet was a more accurate description of them. Never loved them but I never really hated them.
