Free now? I can't figure them out. I got it as part of a bundle awhile back. it can be useful. I used the compressor to really squash some BG vocals a couple times. and the EQ was pretty smooth. Also you can drive the preamp section (and back off the output) to get some cool saturation. Not for everything obviously but I found it works for that sound when you want it.

Also you can drive the preamp section (and back off the output) to get some cool saturation. Not for everything obviously but I found it works for that sound when you want it. they give away things they own the rights to when development costs have been recouped like this and the cut down la2a plug in the hope you might buy something that does more or is more fully featured. This is the voxengo, klanghelm, waves, Tokyo dawn, and now softube approach and they lock the really cool stuff behind the paywall in the full versions or in other plugs but give away something very useful. Span, the waves giveaways, MJUC jr, slick eq non ge, Softube VCA comp and distortion were all interesting products and gave musicians cool and useful things for free. The sinister, scam side of this is since uad requires uad connect spyware to be installed on users’ computers even for a free plugin, this plug serves to increase their user base artificially to increase their value on paper to get more investors or a higher price if they sell it. It’s a legal scam like installing pointless unwanted things that will be torn out in a property to get a higher evaluation from the government for tax purposes to increase the price for any future buyer. So I count as a user in this because I have an account even though I have never given uad any revenue and never will because uad connect phones home and goes haywire if you block it in the os firewall or disconnect the internet so I uninstalled it. I suspect the waves giveaways were similarly motivated but waves keeps releasing new useful things like the clarity plugs and makes a fair amount from the live sound market because what’s on the digital consoles is awful Dan

I guess you could throw Avid Link into that equation then too. Tbh, that's the only one that I've ever had go haywire (it used to do weird stuff when I was not connected to the internet - which is 98% of the time). They fixed it quite awhile ago (2018 maybe?). I've never had UA connect or Waves, or any of the other installers go bad, but I use a physical iLok (ok, the Antares licensing stuff is complete crap and does weird stuff). I'd rather install only the pieces individually - and that's what I do it with PA even though I have quite a few plugins - just makes updating a little more work.

What is this based on? I got it in a bundle but have never used it.

I swapped out Black Box with this on my sub-mixes and it was quite an eye-opener. This one is smoother and fuller while also being clearer. Didn't really change much in the way of settings. Just added a couple notches of the bass. Adjusted the input. Over time I've learned not to do a lot with most plugins or hardware. They often sound worse the more you do. So, I had stopped using the Black Box's saturation and air buttons a while ago. One of these days we should have a thread about how big a change one plugin can make on a mix.

The Century Tube channel strip is a concatenation of the Uad 610 pre 1073 eq and LA3A comp so yeah recycled code from their previous offerings but it's a decent combo for sure. I use it for tracking here and there it's pretty good as a general purpose unison preamp.
I don't have their LA3a plugin so I can use this if I want an LA3a for something

Seems to be their way... But 610, la3a, sure. and anything else UA.

Iirc there was some discussion of the origins of this plugins bits not that long ago. I will see if I can find it. Cheers, Geoff

Maybe it's just me but UAD has done so much damage to their brand for me that even an announcement like this is kind of like "meh, whatever." And honestly, it's not even the pricing confusion, it's two things.
1) The $400 pedal I bought that is a brick and nobody can or will do anything about it. 2) UA acting like total pricks on the message boards.
Somehow those two things have combined to really sully the entire brand for me. I used to be a huge proponent. Now I'm like "I'd like to see those arrogant, condescending jerks fail."
Maybe that's unfair. Probably it IS unfair, in fact I'm sure it is. It might even be dumb. But it's there.

Maybe that's unfair. Probably it IS unfair, in fact I'm sure it is. It might even be dumb. But it's there. Hey, I feel this way all the time. But I still stick around for the low latency thing in Luna. UA has done damage to its brand though. No doubting that. As for Drew being a prick, I finally just put him on ignore. It was an improvement. His constant gaslighting and general arrogance was getting really old. There's usually enough chatter about new releases on the boards that, even with Drew on ignore, I still don't seem to miss out on new or important info. Totally done interacting with that guy though. He's a big part of the reason that I've soured on that company in the way that I have. But the new, shitty version of UA customer service is also a big part. Also, just the general "let them eat cake" attitude that has become apparent with many of the corporate decisions coming out of UA these days. I can't control those other things, but it has improved things a little to at least not interact with Drew anymore.

I wonder if it’s the vintage 610 since the native 6176 (or whatever it’s called) only has the code for the modern version.

I would never have bought it but it's nice to have it for free, it's a good plugin, sounds good on vocals.

How does this work? I clicked on the link and went through the routine but no software has handed in my email, no instructions, nothing.
Please help. This looks like something I can use and I'm really short of cash right now!

you have to download UA Connect, install it and all that, and then it should show up (at which point then you have to authorize it to your ilok, download it, install it...).

UA Connect wanted my EMail name, which I gave it, then asked for my password. My EM password is computer generated and mot accessible to UA. It has a "Change Password" option, but if that alters my Email PW i'm screwed. What do I do?
HELP!

UA connect wants your ua password, the one associated with your account: you must have one.
If you don’t remember, you can use your ua email to be sent a password reset, just keep it simple.
Once reset, you reopen ua connect and your new plug ins (native) uadX, not uad2 will be in ua connect and you can update, download and authorize in ua connect.

I admire your level-headedness. If I were younger and dumber, I would find Drew's home address and break some windows.
