I'm still doing some planning on a video series on tape. I would love to compile a list of all the current people still making analog tape so I can grab a reel of it all and do some sound comparisons. I'm wondering if it's worth it to try the "long play" version of each formation as well? That's something I've never done a direct comparison of, not sure if it's worth the effort? Short list, but this is what I've got (this will all be for 1/4 inch specifically):
-ATR: I've got a reel of their Master Tape
-Record The Masters: SM900 and the SM911 (This is who took over the RMG formula, right?)
-Capture: 914 and 930
-Burlington: Honestly not even sure if I'm going to reach out to them or include it. From what I understand, they're using the Capture tape and not exactly being transparent about it. Happy to hear another side of this though...
I think those are it as far as currently manufactured/available tape.

Yes Record the master was RMG who was BASF.
I know nothing about Capture of Burlington.
I think ATR and SM900 are 'equivalent' but SM911 is a lower output like 456.

The long play ATR ( MDS ? ) is basically the same formula with a thinner backing coat. I believe they are both +6 tapes. I use both

I bet Larry "Silvertone" DeVivo can add a lot of Reel Wisdom too.

RTM makes a thin long playing tape lpr35.
I tried it out. The JH110 had a low tension button that makes it usable. Without it, wow and flutter was out of control. I got it to work.. not so fancy sounding, much more in the consumer-fi camp. Which can be useful for lofi or tape delay.
What’s funny is I put on a reel without labeling it, -stupid- always use leader and sharpie what type of tape you are splicing. Lesson learned, as I spent a week trying to get a good sound before putting some SM900 and being slapped upside the head with hifi detail.
