Giving that featured vocal a bit of extra brightness compander style. I haven't used it but I use the Dolby Effect in Satin and it works when all the other elements are right. I've heard Dopamine does a very good version of it.

Love it. Use on my vocal bus almost all the time and sometimes on snare.

I never demoed it because I have the Audio Thing Type A. I attempt to not have a lot of overlap in my plugins.

It's good. The two types are different enough. Useful for the obvious purposes: pushing something up front.
I know people stress about aliasing with Overloud plugins but I quite like them compared to a lot of the field.

I use it on every track and bus. It can do a lot and really makes balancing easier. Type A and Satin sound way different. They don't have as many options as Dopamine. The compression it does is pretty unique to it. I put it last in the chain. Can't recall that I've ever removed it from something and thought the track or bus sounded better without it.

Overloud has 2 or 3 sales a year where Dopamine isn't that expensive. People may be selling it on KVR or wherever else too.

Yeah I got it a few years ago for about 20% off from JRR who does group sales. I wish I could say I've avoided plug-in overlap. I haven't. I also have Audio Things TypeA and U-he Satin. Satin is probably my favorite because it has lots of encoder and decoder options that make it really flexible. And Satin is very subtle and useful nearly everywhere. Dopamine and TypeA are both really good. I didn't think someone needs both though. I like the work flow on Type A with the bands, but Dopamine is quick to dial a delicious shimmer in as well. BTW- I've fetishized the HW for years. I tried to pick up a HW Dolby 365 about a year ago and it just never worked out. I just recently found one though and bought it... I'm super stoked to explore the HW! The Cat 22 cards that come with the unit I'm getting are already modified with the stretch and stressor tricks so it should be ready to go soon as it lands here next week. WooHoo!

I never demoed it because I have the Audio Thing Type A. I attempt to not have a lot of overlap in my plugins. Type A is a bit 'softer' sounding, while Dopamine hash a graininess that cuts nicely. I like the latter for harder-edged stuff (metal vocals, or hard rock), and Type A for gentler stuff (esp female vox). Though I must admit I rarely use either these days, since getting a Standard Audio Stretch module. That thing is just excellent.

I still find hybrid mixing to be a little more difficult if I start replacing plugin compressor instances with hardware or throw something like Fusion on busses. Though I would definitely love to just run my plugin chain with 500 series equivalents.

Though, once I did I understood the draw. I've thought about the Stretch, I have the Level Or and dig those guys. I'd need to either do swaps or buy a bigger 500 series chasis...
