More compressor talk.
I am off the train now but continuing this train of inquiry.
of all the major topologies, diode bridge is the one I don’t have a hardware example of.
I do have a couple 609 thingeys in sw. Only tried them on drum bus. Surely they are more versatile than that?
Cheers, Geoff

Of course. Some of the are great on vocals and non-drum instruments. I have three diode compressors - the Audioscape D-Comp, the Heritage 609a and the Buzz Audio DBC20. They are all different.
The Audioscape lives on my overheads buss. There Heritage has tone but is versatile - I suppose the tone coming from the transformers. The Buzz Audio DBC20 is not really a character piece but worth having.
At one time I had the Chandler Zener, but I did not like it. Many do though.

The D comp is Emi inspired I think?
Not sure about the Buzz.

I only have plugins. I like the various ones. UAD 33609, 2254, zener, Lindell etc. They are good on drums for sure but I also like them on the master bus sometimes. Can give a nice motion to things. Just depends on what you're working on, I guess. Typically it's not on pop or modern stuff, though. Hm.

I use em wherever they sound good. I'm going to put this on your other threads too. LOL. For me, gear is NON genre or instrument specific. Works or doesn't work.

I have an RND 5424 that I mix through, but also like in tracking on vocals, and bass quite a bit. I've done some guitar solos with it, and those turned out nicely as well. It's quite a versatile compressor when you dive into the controls. Stereo drum room is pretty fun with a diode bridge, but also is pretty 'specific' sounding. I don't always want to compress rooms, so I don't always do it, but it's fun when I do.
In plugins I really like the McDSP Neve model in the 3060 compressor. It does a nice buttery thing that made me interested in picking up a hardware diode bridge. I use the Chandler Zener on drum parallel on almost ever mix. I cheat a little and start with the Ryan Hewet drum parallel setting and then tweak from there.
I have the UAD 33609, and I really need to spend more time with, I think if I spend a little time I can turn it into my main vocal compressor, once I wrap my head around the compressor and limiter interaction.

My Stam 33609 lives on my 2 bus, most of the time. My Audioscape D comp gets used on guitars sometimes and drum overheads as well. I would gladly stick the 33609 on guitar bus as well, but I am fine to just use the UAD version for that when I need it.

I only have the UAD 33609 and I really like it on drums (parallel bus) - really adds some snap, but I like it when I want a tighter sound (so I probably don't have the release on the shortest settings). I really wish UA would make this one native- then I'd probably use it a lot more. It's kind of silly, but I don't use it as much because it tends to slow down my bounces (in Pro Tools)
