This isn't for doing live show recording....
I love the Lynx Aurora (n) in my studio but it's total overkill. I need to do keyboards on some live gigs. I will be using Gig Performer on a Windows 11 laptop. Does anyone have first-hand experience doing live VST keyboards on a PC? Can you recommend an audio interface? I have a MOTU M2 from a friend. Unfortunately, somehow the midi input is blown. I have no idea how that hapenned, considering it is protected by an optocoupler, but I digress. I'd rather not spend a fortune. I just really need low latency. Stereo output is fine. I don't even care about preamps as I am only using it to play back VST instruments.
First-hand knowledge is what I need. I've read about everything available. There just isn't a way to know if it's going to work or not.
Thanks,

I keep a smaller focusrite interface in my laptop bag for emergencies. Plugged it into many computers for live recording over the years (PC & Mac). Never run into a single problem. Latency isn't anything to right home about, but performance is fine for single VST usage.
If it was something I used all the time and relied on, I would certainly have a RME Babyface.
Edit: Motu and focusrite usb interfaces perform pretty similar in regards to latency. Do NOT buy a USB Apollo for windows, those things are terrible.

Roland Rubix is a reasonable cost ($200 ish) class compliant low latency usb interface with midi connections and well thought out features the construction is fairly rugged - metal box not plastic - it powers off usb or external adapter It has a built in comp with three modes and a loopback function I was looking at the UAD Volt interface for the same price and went for the Rubix 2x4 unit instead as it's more versatile I've used Roland USB midi adapters in the past and they are very stable with low latency ime overall I've been pleased with the sound and it works well no issues at all - I'm using it with windows 10 on a Dell laptop

I use a MOTU M4 right now and the latency at low buffer settings hasn't been high enough to annoy me, and I can be sensitive about that kind of thing. The DA is also excellent and having options like the line inputs and the second set of monitor outs is a nice bonus.

Thanks for the replies. Good thing to know about the Apollo USB. I'll look at the Roland Rubix. I'm already very familiar with the M2 and M4 from Motu. I suppose most USB interfaces probably have similar specs. I'd just hate to have some dodgey drivers crash the rig mid-performance.

MOTU M4 and Audient are fine interfaces. Good experiences are also with UAD interfaces and if you want a premium product - RME. Latency is not a concern, I usually go with 64 or 128 buffer size.

What you want is Radial Key Largo. Purpose built for this plus some other useful features. It's awesome. I have it, use it all the time.

The problem is that while Radial Key Largo works great on macOS, it doesn't work as good on Windows.

The problem is that while Radial Key Largo works great on macOS, it doesn't work as good on Windows. Oh really? That's too bad. Yeah, I don't know about Windows. But on the macOS that thing (for me) was like "wow, somebody made exactly what I need." For what it's worth, I think it would be worth the price even without the USB features. That box is awesome and versatile. But without the USB it doesn't solve the OP's challenge.
