Thank you both! Just to clarify though, these are external drives correct? I.e. I have an SSD in my Mac as well. My external SSD is connected via usb-c I think? yes external Yes - mine is a Sandisk and has a high read write rate of 1000 mb per second…maybe that’s normal now…IDK.

All of the samples in both SD3 and EZD3 are loaded into RAM when you pull up a kit. So the only advantage in putting them on an SSD vs a HDD is that they will load faster when you first pull it up (or open a session). Once a kit is loaded into RAM, it doesn’t matter what kind of drive they were stored on. They don’t stream from disk. Ah…that’s true. I just saw my samples loading fast as hell and assumed. Yeah, SSDs have gotten so cheap now, there's no particular reason not to go with an SSD, unless you're just trying to store a huge library. And some other sample-based instruments do stream from disk - just not Toontrack.

By the way, if an awesome drummer like Phil Collins, can use a drum machine and make a great song, then certainly one can still do that with SD3 and EZD3. Will it sound identical to a real drummer? No. Can it be great? Yes. It is Art.

Would that song still have been a hit if his REAL drums didn't come in for the second half? Of course now days there are more hits without real drums than with them... But it's mostly trash.

That drum machine used in In The Air sounds like a freaking toy by itself - but completely works in that song.

Nah…that rototom fill is the signature of the song.

So I think I’m sold on EZD3 just because of the new Singer Songwriter EZX expansion…sounds soooo good! Wondering, does anyone else have it installed on an external SSD, and if so, does it perform well? I don’t have enough room left on my main drive. I have my samples on a Samsung T5 and my "work disk" an external Samsung T7. The T7 is faster than the T5 - these drives have worked will for me and small enough I can take with a laptop if I need to. Except for the core application (i.e PT, Logic, etc.,) I try to keep most read/write intensive things for the DAW on external SSDs.

Bought the bundle ($269) with the Singer-Songwriter and Michael Ilbert Part 2 (also a Singer-Songwriter sound but perhaps a little more modern) EZX’s. Really excited to put both to work! Have some other kits in the same vein but nothing that sounds this good straight out of the box. Thanks John…super good tip!
