I've really got to try some great river's sometime. Had so many rave reviews on Lynn Fuston's old site at 3daudioinc. I think it is another example of a piece of gear that was incredibly popular and loved, but is not the flavor of the month.

I've really got to try some great river's sometime. I think you will like them. I certainly do. Very big and open sounding. I have never used a Neve but I hear from people who have that these are like that with an extended top end compared to them.

He just doesn't push them like a lot of the whipper snappers

And yeah Great River is sweet. Johnkenn I’ve AB’d with other Neve clones like the Stam MPA and the Heritage two-channel one (before they made more budget gear, the DMA73 or something like that). The Great River is super close in sonics to those, but a tad smoother in the high mids in my (blind) comparisons.

Isn't it a bit obscene that the GR preamps use two 500 slots?

Isn't it a bit obscene that the GR preamps use two 500 slots? You can just buy the 19" rack version which probably runs at a higher voltage

Nice rack! …never gets old Oh...Thank you. So kind of you to notice. I'm blushing. I had a rack augmentation performed a couple years ago. My rack went from a size 6 to a size 11. I got the Stam to help push-up my level. Kind of brings new meaning to the term "low cut top" doesn't it?! Does it make my BT look fat? If you are going to perform in audio porn you gotta have a big rack and a world Class A. AC/DC...nobody cares. (I did that for you chessparov)

I'd been wanting to build one of those CAPI 511-VPR racks, but they are never in stock.

I check Capi's Facebook page everyday to see what they have in stock. Even when I'm not in the market for something. If you think you'll have an eventual need you have to get it when it's available. The last time I bought a 511 rack I bought 2 and then decided I wasn't ready for the second one so I sold it. I should have kept it because now I need it.

Well done and …. Don’t buy another 500 series rack …. Or any rack, they trigger a “football card” collecting mentality! I’ve filled all my racks now. That’s it I’m done. It’s a good feeling and good for your wallet too What sources do you favour your GR pre’s on?

Well done and …. Don’t buy another 500 series rack …. Or any rack, they trigger a “football card” collecting mentality! I’ve filled all my racks now. That’s it I’m done. It’s a good feeling and good for your wallet too What sources do you favour your GR pre’s on? Anything really. It depends on the song and what the dominant element is going to be. Acoustic guitars shine using them. I always use the GR's for those. They have a wonderful extended top end with a well rounded bottom end to boot. Super clean but can get dirty when pushed. I don't have the space to record drums but if I did, kick drum would be a good fit with them. Big, fat, bottom end. I run drum samples through them as well as my Focusrite ISA428. Bass guitar sounds good through them as well. Sometimes I run the Ox Box line output through them for electric guitars but I use the API's for that most of the time. Depending upon the particular voice, it's a trade-off between them and my API 312's. The API's sound better on my voice. I need all the help in the upper mids I can get and the API's do that well. I know all too well about the football card collector thing, but there are still a few more items I would like to have hardware for. I'd like to try a couple CAPI VP28 mic pre's. Maybe try out some CAPI Audio Bacon units for my mix buss. I also want a couple channels of hardware transient designers. I certainly don't NEED another rack. It's mostly a GAS thing. I haven't decided if I'll pull the trigger on another 511 rack yet. I went to Vintage King in Nashville a couple weeks ago and auditioned studio monitors. I didn't buy anything because my studio is disassembled and in storage until the fire damage at the house is repaired. Still living in a hotel at this point but I have my rack with all (well most) of my gear in it with me. I also went to Gruhn's Guitars in Nashville and played several tens of thousands of dollars of acoustic guitars last week. I played a Guild D50 that almost followed me home. It was spectacular. I have played a number of them over the years and THAT one was really special. It was the best sounding guitar I played that day by far and I played many that were far more than twice its price.

Capi has 511 rack kits in stock right now. nice, I wish I "needed" one right now, but I don't. I actually have 2 slots open right now, and "empty slot syndrome" is real, so if I had more slots, I'd have more problems, ya know?

The Voice always makes me dizzy all those chairs spinning. Why I would need some serious time in Snoops dressing room first😁
