I’ve had a Capi Heider for probably about a year now. Bought it to use on acoustics - I loved the original on acoustics - so this is even better. But boy have I slept on this thing. Thought I’d give it a shot on some vocals. Holy shit. It’s now my vocal pre.
It really reminds me of the H2 (no relation) Helios 0011. You all know my obsession with all things Helios…this is very reminiscent - but much punchier. Both are “fast”, maybe slightly mid forward…but the bottom on the Heider is just effing great.
So I just bought a second one to use on the Mixbus…and I’m in love. So ****ing punchy with this pristine top. Always looking for betterizers and this is one for sure. You know - running into the Burl AD when I had it was pretty subtle…this is anything but. It’s pretty substantial.

I love them on electric guitar and bass amps. Snare drum is crazy good too. Never tried them on acoustic or vocals

🤟🏻 For your drooling pleasure😆 The Heiders are much more affordable! I got excited when I saw this for a little over a thousand, and I realized it was just the power supply without the modules! I have to try some Heider H2’s

How do the API 312's compare to the Heiders? I have a pair of the API's and like them a lot.

The API's I have are not new. It's an A2D with 2 - 312 preamps in it. Those were made in the mid 2000's. I have a pair of Capi BT-50's and was blown away by them.

CAPI is rooted in the sound of vintage API.

For those of you using it on mix bus, which impedance setting are you liking more?

Have never tried them on the 2bus but will have to check that out! Johnkenn are you talking Heider gen 1 or MkII's? I have a pair of both as well as the 0011's. All of them get used and are all great!

Jeff said that 450 was going to be perceived as a little brighter than the 200 option. I noticed it had a volume jump too…I could be mistaken on that.

I have the original heiders. IS it worth the upgrade to the H2?

For those of you using it on mix bus, which impedance setting are you liking more? It won't really matter as line mode takes precedent with a much higher impedance than in mic mode.

How do the API 312's compare to the Heiders? I have a pair of the API's and like them a lot. Similar, but different. CAPI's round off/thicken up the transient a bit more. Thicker and more "vintage" sounding, I guess. I think modern APIs are maybe more neutral/cleaner. I've never heard a 312 sound "wrong" on anything. I don't love them on vocals, but even so, they're fine. The CAPIs extra color can be great on the right source or not so great on the wrong source, in my experience. I've noticed that it seems to be a right of passage on gear forums to snub APIs when one discovers CAPI, but I personally don't buy it. They both are great, professional sounding pres. CAPIs, however, have some extra features that are definitely useful.

This thread makes me wonder, is there a sensible connection or lineage between the Capi Heiders and the Helios modules ?
