A client of mine is looking to travel to a historic studio of some kind, preferably with a legacy in the country world, to make a record. I've made some suggestions of places I know (and/or would like to know!), most in Nashville (Blackbird, 1979, RCA), but I'm looking for additional recommendations. Nashville (or even the south) isn't really a strict requirement, it just plays into the promotional angle my client is looking to capitalize on given its place in country music history. But other cities are totally a possibility.
Any thoughts?

If other cities, what about Muscle Shoals?
PS. Dave Cobb is holding residency at RCA Studio A right now…damn that would be sweet if they have the budget!

Other than Sun Records? Hmm... Sun would be cool if they ran the place as a studio first, and a museum second. I don't think starting sessions at 7pm is really tenable, so it's probably out of the running.

Muscle Shoals, I knew I was forgetting an obvious one. 🤦🏻♂️ Thanks! A friend of mine in Nashville is pretty tight with Dave. That's one of the reasons I was going to look into it.

I need to meet your friend! . Would love to spend a day with Dave Cobb in session producing and another one with Vance Powell mixing (well, months with both actually)…imho best team in the biz for my preferred genre.

RIP Rick Hall @ FAME. Protege of Sam Phillips.
Some OG Swampers are still around... Chris

Ha, welp, my friend is tight with Vance, too! He used to be a local and very, very good tech so he basically knows all the players down there.

I believe RCA A is more available than it used to be for outside booking since Dave is mostly in Georgia now…
Sound Emporium is a great studio, probably my favorite “commercial” studio in town.
Creative Workshop is the other still in business studio from the 70’s that available for booking.
If you want to go to Memphis there’s also Sam Phillips. Not sure what’s going on at Ardent anymore

What about The Castle? www.castlerecordingstudios.com/Or Darkhorse - I’ve never been there but always wanted to go… darkhorserecording.com/

Sound Emporium seems so cool and was Cowboy Jack Clement's place which totally ups the cool factor.

Never got the chance to talk to him. He was at one of the Welcome to 1979 Summits and it was really great to be that close to him while he told stories or played guitar.

I know it’s not a legacy place - but I’d be looking at Southern Grooves. That place looks awesome.

The Quonset hut is a teaching facility only now? Quonset Hut is owned by Belmont and is pretty much just a classroom. Southern Grooves is Matt Ross-Spang’s place in Memphis and is brand new, but yes very awesome.

Hi Benny. Any past clips (yet) of your Client... We can listen too. I understand of course, if they're not ready for that. (But you know me )

Another vote for Sound Emporium; the collaboration of Alison Kraus and Robert Plant (40 Grammies between them) is a nice reference and endorsement, as I know Alison cares deeply about audio and expect Robert has high expectations. The musicians are so good! :
