Been waiting for this one...Definitely gonna grab the 1073 (for kick and snare...damn), Fatso (I've missed it on the Drum bus), EMT250 and maybe RE201.

I had it in a previous UAD life...it was really nice...I've been using VBC Grey on Drum bus...really nice to be able to tame the snare and let the kick pass through...I do like the Fatso though because the Transformer knob seems to really add some balls. I know we talked about the Fairchild, but I have to say - I've been using it less and less. I find myself tweaking endlessly with that thing. The whole bias screw or whatever it is and then the slope and then the HPF and the Mix knob...There are too many options. But it certainly looks cool as shit.

Lol... yeah, I feel ya, and you turned me onto the damn thing! But, I have since found that using the FC on the buss, bass, and even on the vocal makes me happy. Flavor of the month man, it's not the plugin, it's ALL the plugins!
Fatso is really badass, best thing I've ever bought from UAD I think. The sound of the compression from it is just wild, especially on drums. I use it too on a parallel vox, it usually add loads of thickness, but it can really get away from you quick. Fatso is kind of like a swiss army knife when it comes to compression.

Holy crap. My friend just died, but I'm thinking about what's positive. I just got 1176, LA2A, Pultec bundles plus BX tuner, with my voucher from Apollo, for $180 or something, wow. The Pultec especially, sounds great, so far, add the other ones on a direct bass...very nice.
I think the BX tuner came out to -35 dollars or something by gaming the discount with a $20 plugin... cool. I needed a digital tuner anyway.

It's a crazy story, he got killed by a stray bullet from a neighbor whose gun went off for some reason, shot him in the head. He is survived by his wife and infant child. One less musician in the world.

So what do you guys use all the time? I know I want the Fatso and the Neve...I had the EMT250 for a long, long time and used it on tons of stuff...but since I started another card group, I bought the Plate 140 and have been really, really happy with it. I wish UAD had a proprietary Delay like Echoboy. I like the RE201, but don't know if it's something I want to spend that much on. I basically have used it for EG's occasionally. How about some of the cheaper plugs? That way I could reach 40% off with four plugs, but keep it cheap with the last two. Anyone use the LA3A much? The new Tilt EQ? K Stereo?

I think I'll go for it in a month or two. Looking at EMT 140, Ocean Way room, Studer and Ampex.

John, have you tried either the EP-34 or the Cooper time cube?
They are generally less expensive than the RE-201 and I found I much preferred them. I like the tone of the EP-34 so much I will often place it on my reverb bus to get everything to chill out and move backwards a bit. Of the two I use the EP-34 more, but haven't heard a delay that sounded quite like the Cooper.
As for the less expensive plugs, I am surprised at how much I use the Dimension D, especially in bass land. Its about as simple as it gets, but does its thing well.
I think the precision De-Esser is the easiest of its kind to dial in (also like the metering) and its normally $99. Boring choice, I know.
And if you ever struggle with unwanted room sounds, the Transient Designer is awesome. I think its around $199.
As always, super easy to demo if nothing else. I don't consider myself a UA fanboy, but then I look at my screen and I sure seem to have their stuff everywhere.

After the thread about the spring reverb akg, I think I'm gonna go with the re201.

Don't overlook the Ocean Way, if you don't have it, John. Unique.

On a more cheerful note, the 1176, LA2A, and Pultec collections have really been working for me. I like how you can really push them and they don't crap out. Of course, they sound great, too. I took someones tip and started using Helios on the midrange stuff, keys and guitars, and that's sounding nice also.
The Maag EQ4 is also really good at opening up the top end, just as advertised, and for pumping the subs and mids as needed. I used it on mix bus. I'm using the Plugin Alliance version, but the UAD version is said to be identical.
I'd be really curious if anyone's tried the UAD Fairchild, or the 33609 stuff, cause I know Waves, and IK, maybe have similar plugins.

When I first got the Fairchild, I thought I would be using it on everything...but I've kind of cooled on it a little. I tend to use the slate Grey over it on drum bus and the LA's over it on bass. But I really need to dig in. There are just so many options with it, it's a little endless for me.

I'm getting cold feet on putting money into plugs...I mean, it would be easier and quicker with these plugs...but damn. We're still talking $600...

I'm pretty much roped in to the UAD stuff. Not a lot of bang for the processing buck with the SHARC processors, but I just got an Apollo Twin to do stuff on my laptop when I'm not at home, and it's a cool setup.

I just freaking did it...and damn...glad I did. Holy crap. The Neve on kick is just disgustingly great. And no other plug is better (to me) than the Fatso SR on Drum Bus. Maybe it's the Tranny...Also picked up the EMT 250 and RE201.

I just plugged in the 610 B unison preamp that comes free with Apollo, while doing a 2-track analog mixdown. When I cranked up the gain knob, I couldn't believe what I heard I think my mouth actually opened. I also couldn't believe how accurate the simulation was, past about 6 or 7 on the knob I got the exact same ugly crackly clipping I used to get on my Solo 610 hardware. I will say critically, that UAD Pultec was not working on mix bus for me in this specific case, I swapped it out for Waves Puigtec, which I seem to really like as a mix EQ. I was skeptical for a while, but now I have the opinion that the UAD analog modeling plugins, in general, are actually pretty special compared to analog modeling plugs from elsewhere. It seems like that's their primary focus anyway, modeling real gear, and they're good at it. IK Multimedia is pretty good too. I'm also starting to get into the SSL Duende stuff a bit, I think it's underrated. X-Verb and the bus compressor are serious business. I'm actually not too surprised, I think I like the SSL Duende compressor better than Cytomic Glue, good job SSL. This sounds like a paid testimonial, haha. But I'm a believer now. I just hope they have a big sale at Christmas or something so I can get a few more. I have LA2A, 1176, Pultec, and the free stuff. I think I want Neve EQ and compressor, Cooper delay, EMT reverb, and perhaps Ocean Way, tape, and API. That's a pretty expensive order though without a big sale. It's at a weird price point where I could actually buy or build DIY hardware for the same money. Michael Brauer said something funny, he can't tell the difference between UAD and Manley's actual Massive Passive, makes me a bit curious, now that I have drank the UAD Kool-aid. Also I could not believe how utterly awful the UAD Culture Vulture sounded in their official promotional video, just disgustingly bad. I hope the real one's not that terrible.
