I have just completed this extensive listening session-video.
Use your ears and make your own judgment.
Enjoy :-)
Similar sessions with male vocals coming shortly.

Vocals are recorded through a standard K&M pop-filter. The lips were approx. 5 inches from the capsule. Signal-chain was; mic -> Great River MP2NV -> RME Fireface -> Logic

Huge amount of work here thankyou.
Whats interesting is how usable nearly all the mic recordings would be. A couple that jumped out as "hmmm" but very few.

I'm not sure... I see why Chris Martin likes that C414XLSII that sounded the best to me. It always has a nice sweet spot for tenors and none of the pinching, eq artifacts, or zingyness you find in cheaper mics. While most of the Rodes sounded terrible I liked the NTK on your voice. But C414 XLSII wins. Thanks

...and what complicates the matter even more is, that you (as in "all of us") will have very little clue as to which mic will sound the best in a given arrangement of a song.
I use, and very much like, the BLUE Bottle system with interchangable capsules. I have the whole capsule-kit plus a customized Tim Campbell CT-12 capsule - 10 capsules in total. I have recorded vocals on four of my own projects with that mic and I usually record the first verse with all the capsules and then I can A/B (or A/B/C/D/E/F/G/H/I/J) compare the texture of the vocaltracks and chode the one I like the most. I have not used the same capsule for vocals two times - on my own voice that is - it's allways different what sounds the best.
...and I'm rarely in doubt which is the most suiting for the task.
I guess what I am trying to say is, that the very subtle differences is very likely to be what makes it hit or shit ;-)
Food for thoughts...

I have just finished uploading the drum-session; Could you post a list of mics in the order that they're featured? Also, are the files available for download? Thanks again. -Jesse

Interesting. On vocals it was a much closer sound to each other. Some might be a little more nasal or dark than others but none really changed the overall tone too much.
On drums it was much easier to hear the difference with the "cheaper" mics having "harder" mids with generally more honk.

Blue Woodpecker, Neumann TLM102, and DPA 4099 are all most agreeable on her voice, with the T-Funk CU29 being very very close to the top-3.
