I have the OG freebie from way back when. How different is the GE edition?
Cheers, Geoff

Can’t say I know. Saw this get some love on an analog sounding plugin thread I posted so have been looking at it here and there.

I have the OG freebie from way back when. How different is the GE edition? Cheers, Geoff it works and doesn’t sound like shit beneath 5 ms or so attack. It is much more program dependent. You can do far greater amounts of gain reduction. The limiter works.

I have the OG freebie from way back when. How different is the GE edition? Cheers, Geoff More tweakability. You can set it to do almost anything but on krokodil. SSL bus, Distressor, Daking, smart c2, optos, diode bridges, dbx160 spikes, it can do it all but way more aggressively and hug the material better. First of all use it on insane, turn off mid eq, saturation, limiter, turn on feedback because molot is linear and not log. Attack is the rate of gain reduction. Alpha/sigma is how slow the attack of the initial transient is and warps the attack low pass filter between exponential and sigmoid curves. The sigma lets the transient be shaved slower and therefor has less distortion. Release is the faster release unless you use instant mode, whip adds as third even faster release for shape peaks while relaxed will slow down the end of the secondary release even further. Secondary detector always use imo. Secondary attack is how long secondary release charges for in terms of time. You can make this bleed into the main attack for a slower secondary attack like daking and ssl bus auto release. Secondary release is what you think Now knee… 50% is where to start. Harder knees expand like the dbx 160 and og molot hard knee. Yes this thing is crazy. Vlad G is a genius. Dude. He rocks. Saturation is sicko and sounds warm and takes highs and lows off so eq after. Maybe filter the dc offset. Limiter is a cool soft clipper. Sick stuff. Can make transients big with sigma on hard knee the clip them off. Mega cool. Works unlike molot og where they would come back like l1… If you want an ssl… buy the glue. Honestly just drop the hundred. If you want an 1176 buy hardware. If you want daking comp smoothness and sound buy hardware. Honestly though this is the bomb, the hammer, and is up there with kotelnikov, the Sony / sonnox stuff, waves renaissance compressor, Weiss ds1 as digital classics. Read the manuals. The tdr manuals are good like the sonnox and the old waves ones with the greyscale front pages. None of these developers with the good manuals fuck around at all. Old Waves pre emulation bullshit, Sony Oxford / Sonnox, TDR, Sound Radix, Weiss Engineering, Cytomic. They do not fuck around at all.

I do not know what it is about the Molot that is just amazing. It is the first time I ever felt like a plugin was a piece of hardware in my computer. $19 - just amazing.
I do not understand the technicalities of "informative Dan" on this forum, but there is something about this plug, even the movement of the gui knobs as it affects sound, that seems so analog.

A bit off topic, but, because The Glue was mentioned, Andy Simper has started to work on the Glue HD. He bought the DIYRE GBus compressor and also got a Stam. He's going to measure every component in the DIYRE as he builds it and he's going to model the harmonic distortion too. That's going to be cool. I think right now it's the best SSL plugin, however, if I recall correctly he modeled it on a different, less faithful clone.

Malot GE is a good compressor (and I bought it), but just due to the amount of options in it, I rarely use it. I always end up with a "lesser" compressor that gets me done faster. Probably just my impatience but I don't like messing with endless controls.

Probably just my impatience but I don't like messing with endless controls. Honestly. Just tweak the presets. Radiate is like a gssl. Decrease release, increase secondary release, make ratio 3:1, harden up the knee, maybe instant instead of relaxed to make it more ssl. Siberian Sunset almost smart c2. The rest should be self explanatory. Kick/Snare just add transients and smack. Dan

When I've use it (and the free version) i've always gotten a good sound, even if I didn't go crazy trying to squeeze every last drop of of Malot GE's options.

IIRC only component modeled the sidechain thus the gain reduction behavior. Otherwise, it’s a truly clean digital compressor when you oversample it. There’s a lack of poor programming nasties commonly seen in bad digital compressors including other SSL bus ersatzes. If I get the right amout of gain reduction for attack and ratio settings on auto release with a high pass set judiciously, I have trouble hearing the glue working because then it won’t even take the high end off that much. Of course too much or too little gain reduction will take the high end off exactly like hardware with proper auto release and stereo link.

Probably just my impatience but I don't like messing with endless controls. That is interesting. I find the Molot very easy to use and quick to get a great sound. The Massenburg plugin comp is difficult for me to understand for some reason, so I reach for the Kotelnikov more when I want that cleaner sound.

I barely tweak it at all beyond the standard compression settings (threshold, attack/release, etc) and it works great.

I do wish PB would list how long the sale is for (or am I missing that?). I should just buy it but prefer to demo first, and won’t have time till this weekend.
