Ehrlund EHR-E large diaphragm condenser mic

These mics are super cool. I've got an EHR-T, and used to also have an M, and the sound of these things is just utterly unique. I would describe it as downright disorienting the first time you use them, but they are an incredibly useful and effective voice once you've wrapped your head around what they do. The LF extension is incredible; most sources sound like they have an extra octave in the bottom end when compared to other mics. There's also a really unusual clarity and sense of detail that allows you to mic from considerably further distances without losing a sense of proximity, not in terms of exaggerated LF or LM response, but simply in terms of a feeling of 'closeness'.

These two traits combine to make for an incredible bass amp mic, placed at least a few feet from the amp to allow the bottom end to develop but without losing that sense of detail. Just awesome.
