While I don't peg this community as being too hip-hop/pop forward, I KNOW I'm not the only person who is completely freaking done with Antares and their licensing hiccups. Thank the lord my current issues came up as CrispyTune went up for sale or I'd be damn lost and OUT OF WORK given the genre-context I'm in. It's an unfortunate necessity with most of these artists. Usually I can "get away" with not having the C800G, but if I told somebody "no auto-tune" they would walk out before I could start the meter.
I NEVER had a problem with iLok, but presumably in the interest of saving a few bucks, Antares moved to their own completely broken licensing system operating through their Install Portal (AutoTune Central). There isn't a SINGLE engineer in my circle that hasn't had to submit a support ticket for this same issue or the simple fact that prior updates weren't backwards compatible and everyone lost all of their settings on legacy work.
For context of my issue, the installed and activated licenses are not being seen, so my GUIs are all locked. I contacted Support who sent me a separate "License Cleaner" that is supposed to remove all traces of Antares Licenses, after which I'd be able to reinstall... no dice!
The engineering community has made these guys SO DAMN RICH over the course of the past decade, for them to knowingly port over to a buggy license system so that they don't have to pay iLok is a gigantic slap in the face to EVERYBODY who made them what they are today. Freaking DESPICABLE!

I agree that their licenser sucks, but I have not purchased Autotune from them directly (got it through UA) and mostly never use it anyway (Melodyne works better for me). So the only thing I use it for is a free Antares Duo-vox (doubler) that I think I got free through my Avid account. Its almost not worth it to even have it installed and I do recall having some issue with it initially (but it's been stable recently so I just don't touch it - but then again I also almost never use it. but that stupid licenser is always running too (Windows/Pro Tools).
I should say that I don't like most licensers. I tolerate iLok and many others (like PA or Waves) I have on a USB stick where they store their encrypted license files locally.

Yeah, I wish they had stayed with ilok. I am about to move to a new computer, so I will have to install AT on the new machine, deactivate the old machine, and activate the new one. Not looking forward to the process. There's usually an unfortunate extortion they get you with. I've given Antares so much "upgrade" $$ over the years.... That being said, after I got AT set up on the old one, it never gave me any issues. Their authorization thingy just ran in the background, even with the computer offline most of the time. We run Pro Tools on Windows though.
