I've been looking for an Electro Voice N/D 868 for months now with no luck. None on Reverb or Ebay and I've been checking almost daily since about February. Never had this much trouble trying to find a piece of gear that isn't something super sought after. Are there just not that many out there or are they so good that no one wants to get rid of them? I went crazy watching kick mic demos and this mic definitely stood out, so I would love to add one to my locker. My current choices are a Beta 52 (which I kind of hate) and an RE20 - this mic seems like a good option as it seems to sound somewhere between those two.

One popped up on Reverb a few months back, went in less than 2 days for around $150 if I remember right. Reverb, eBay, and Sweetwater used all let you set notifications, GC doesn't (which is the best place to find things sometime, even with their crap used system).

Oh man, I guess I need to set up notifications! The thing with modern EV is most hang onto them vs say Shure or AT, the other thing is EV has updated that line so many times nobody can remember what is what & honestly most Bosch era updates are more about how to make it cheaper vs real improvement.

I cherish mine. After searching forever, the N/D 868 was exactly what I hadn’t been able to find before. It was real strange to me when then discontinued it.

I tried one when I was selling gear and I remember liking it, but don't remember what was special about it. Please enlighten (remind)me.

I remember at the time a lot of my friend’s were into the D6. They always sounded WAY overhyped to me. Like Audix knew what EQ moves you were going to make then overdid it by double. For me the N/D 868 was just right. There is an eq curve to it but way more gentle and less pronounced than the D6. Its way more useful to me for many genres and just gets me closer to where I want to be faster without everything sounding like a metal band kick.

I haven't compared it to an 868, but I think the current ND68 is pretty good! I have two.

While I've never used one myself, this is exactly what I was thinking when listening to the couple shootouts I came across. I want something with a bit of a curve, but nothing insanely drastic (like a D6 as you mentioned). After years of using a Beta52, I'm sick of it, lol. I also don't always love EQing the hell out of my RE20 to get it to work, so this mic seems like a happy medium.

Telefunken M82 is available and fairly versatile.

D6 sounds like a beta 52 but made for a crappy commercial metal band

Telefunken M82 is available and fairly versatile. I’ve been listening to a bunch of comparisons and I like what this mic is doing. Might grab one.

I really like this mic and kept searching on reverb and eBay as well when after about a year, one popped up on eBay that I was able to snag. I remember it being reasonably priced too. It's still on my saved searches and they really don't show up often. I saw one a couple of weeks ago on music go round's site though.
