I've churned through a few budget mics recently, mostly because I didn't bond with them or they ended up being defective (used from GC, not too surprising.)
My most recent attempt at a decent inexpensive mic is an [used] Austrian Audio OC16 that I was able to test out in limited capacity before getting it, to insure it works. I haven't had time to do much with it yet but wanted to see if there are any more recent thoughts on it than the limited discussions I found from '22 and '23 in this forum.
Hoping it to be a good demo vocal and acoustic workhorse - probably the areas I would use it the most. I know the OC18 gets some good remarks all around and this isn't that exactly, but hoping it to be better than and/or more versatile than a C214, for the price point.
As always, all thoughts appreciated.

Long story short... I went to the AKG Booth last NAMM and the '016 was inferior sounding to the 018's IMHO. At least that specific one.
I was going to re-try it at the local GC. But... The Staff wasn't that interested in having it properly set up. It just "looked" ready for testing. LOL!
Better choices out there... Chris

I haven’t used the 16, but from everything I’ve heard online it’s much brighter than my OC818.

It definitely seems brighter based on various comparisons I listened to. Maybe I will come to the same conclusion that its "too bright." I need to take it for a drive on my acoustic and vocals and see how it sounds. For demos, I suspect it will be fine - better than most other options I have, save for the Lewitt 840.
