Thought what the hell and pulled the trigger on a pair of AL95s so we'll see/hear!

So first impression about these Samar AL95 is they really seem to be in between a km184 and a Stager dang. These sound excellent on the acoustic guitar and will have a chance to overheads soon. Not loving them on vocals or keys though. Anyway, this is exactly what I was looking for so thanks everyone!

great, now that you got those, pickup a Chandler TG Type L too! I use it on almost every session and need to get a second (if there was a multi-pattern option I think I'd have replaced a couple other mics already)

That Chandler L will definitely be added to the list. Dang heard some nice examples.
Wanted to say these Samars are so good I am growing to dislike the km184s. Didn't expect that so selling them. Is there anyone who doesn't use SDCs and just uses ribbons and LDCs for everything? Because I don't know why I'd even want an SDC now ha.

I use SDC’s but avoid bright ones like the 184. I fought a pair of KM140’s for years and sold them. If the ribbon is better for the job, so be it. For me it’s frequently down to desired sensitivity for the source, and mic EQ somewhat follows that naturally.

I have a lot of Sennheiser MKH series new and old, Oktava’s, Neumann KM130 which is a flat omni, DPA 4060 omni’s. The KM130 and MKH20/30/40 are all super flat and can seem dark at times. I lean omni as much as I can get away with it, and figure 8 with the MKH30’s sees a ton of use. I think pattern control on the 30’s is better than any ribbon I own too. I’d get another KM130 and a KM120 if I could find or afford them.
