It’s getting to a point where it might be cheaper to build a Time Machine than to buy all of my favorite vintage mics…

Average used selling price now is $2780 in great but not pretty condition, and up to $7750 in mint or near-mint condition.

IMO, mostly worth the going rates. Not the crazy prices, but the going normal rates. They have not inflated anywhere near the percentages as the big name mics, but IMO are used as much and sometimes more. Still a bargain.....

Gear fetishizing is rampant. Good for collectors looking to retire, not very good for the craft of making music.
Although, something’s gotta thin the herd. People disappointing themselves by chasing sonics with $$$ instead of experience and skill will probably eventually give up.

It’s getting to a point where it might be cheaper to build a Time Machine than to buy all of my favorite vintage mics… I almost bought a Vintage DeLorean last week. (Someone beat me to it!) I was only going to drive it... From time to time! Chris P.S. Maybe I'll get another ton of mint VF-14 Tubes again... Next April 1st.

I’d say $1750-$2000 is a realistic price…at least that’s what I sold 4 of them for earlier this year. And they were all in great shape I think they are worth that. I have 6 and they are the only mics I use every session, at least 4 of them

I'm waiting for Warm / or Behringer to make them for $70 Don't wait. It's here already. Bill will probably back me up on this, and I sound like a broken record. An Oktava MK-012 is as close as you'll ever get to a KM84 IF you are close mixing acoustic instruments. You don't have to believe me but I've done the AB test. No one could tell where my punches were between the two mics. I do love the KM84 but the MK-012 does that thing very well. Closer than anything else I've ever used.

I'm waiting for Warm / or Behringer to make them for $70 Bill will probably back me up on this I will. Consider yourself backed up. They are even better modded. Remember I did the AcGtr overdub where I cut back and forth 13 or 14 times randomly and neither I or the guitarist could hear where the edits were? Then Michael Joly used that as a contest to give away a pair. Hundreds of people completely and randomly messed up. The guy who won used an analyzer and there is a bit of sub bass that the 012 picks up. But yeah, close mic'd they are as close as it gets. The big difference is in the off-axis response. In normal use they are interchangeable.

I should have known (facepalm)
It's not a bad mic. Very neutral sounding if you need to tame something with touch of fattening from the transformer design. Very sensitive to plosives and sharp consonants so a pop filter and/or good placement is a must. I think it fell out of what favor it had when Carlos came out with his Serrano 84.

I demo’d the WA-84 and thought it was pretty nice sounding, but there was a low mid bump I didn’t like.
The 3U Warbler 127 (with the ‘cardioid flat’ capsule) is really close to a KM-84. I posted blind clips here and on GS it was about 50/50 what people preferred.

Neumann will release a very small batch of Km84s build from NOS parts. I think they even posted themselves that 25 pairs would be made and that's it. Price; noone knows but my guess is 4-6k€

I have a pair that is one serial number apart and sound virtually identical. I am always so tempted to sell them but I think they’re gonna be buried with me
