Note: I use this mic at my desk for recording "scratch" stuff and for meetings and daily work. Its intended purpose is nothing special, but I am on an Antelope Zen Go interface, so using an edge solo ads some benefit, if it doesn't degrade the sound quality.
I am looking at an Antelope Audio Edge solo and the specs on it are as follows:
Freq. response: 20HZ ~ 20kHZ Self-noise: 19dB(A) S NR: 75dB(A) Sensitivity: -35dB | 18mV/Pa (-1 to +3dB) THD+N: -116dB
Self noise is not great but I don't know how to interpret that sensitvity reading since I am used to seeing these more like -35db | 1mV/Pa
Its math right, but not sure how to convert that to 1mV/Pa reference or if I need to, comparing it to another mics sensitivity (Shure sm27) given as
Sensitivity. at 1kHz,open circuit voltage. -37 dBV/Pa[1] Self Noise 9.5dB - good noise floor
Would appreciate help understanding which mic is actually more sensitive. On the portable interface I use the sm27 on, I'm needing to go up considerably on the gain for a level I want. If the Antelope would require less gain for same distance, I'd be inclined to give it a whirl, modeling or not.

Perhaps they're great sounding microphones, but the noise spec would tell me to not choose them for quiet applications. honestly, KM84s are borderline noisy on super quiet guitar parts but on almost all piano applications, they are just amazing and seem quiet. Can't wait for more people to weigh in on these.

Well what would you like to hear first? The good Gnu's? Or the bad Gnu's? Which reminds me of a story.

Oddly enough, my "Budget Vocal Champ"/AKG P120... Has the identical S/N figures. It's perfectly fine for close miking vocals. Up to around 10" away in a quiet room. Anything normal coversational Speaking Voice or louder. Not lion here. Chris

19dB is pretty high, but it won't matter on louder sources at all. For just spoken word... it may have some extra background hiss. I'd expect it to be 16dB or lower for a "fairly good" mic. Being a SDC, make sure you have a good pop filter as they are very suseptible to plossives.
