Hey Everyone, This is my first post on this forum. I found out about it while I was in Nashville exhibiting at the Summer NAMM show. Lots of great info on here! I noticed there are quite a few of you in the Nashville area. We have our newest ribbon mic, the Model 2, available for free demo at Blackbird Audio Rentals if you guys are interested in trying it out. Our Model 1 ribbon is there as well for demo. If you haven't heard of us, check out our website: www.mesanovicmicrophones.comAll the best, Deni

So tell us about the mic.. We're in it for the details, so the more, the better!

So tell us about the mic.. We're in it for the details, so the more, the better! I'd be more than happy to give more details! The Model 2 is a passive figure eight ribbon with identical responses for the front and rear lobes. It is completely handmade at our shop in Detroit. We do all the metal work, ribboning, testing, etc. The motor design is very unique. The narrowness of the motor combined with custom machined resonator plates, gives the mic a broad 3dB boost centered around 13kHz, and a low end reaching flat out to 20Hz. We use a custom made toroidal transformer from Samar Audio Design. The ribbon is 1.8 microns thick, 2 inches in length, and 0.23 inches wide. The result is a one of a kind ribbon sound. We have some audio samples on our website, and will be posting more soon along with reviews and some videos. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know! Best, Deni

They work great together with our motor design. I've attached a picture of the motor and magnets (no ribbon or resonator plates). Deni Attachments:

Thanks! It does have a similar sound to the R84, but it is brighter.

Dude.. I just listened to the sound files. I really like the sound of this mic. The price is RIGHT. Now I just need an excuse to get one for the studio..

I'm happy to hear you found the sound files useful! I worked really hard to keep the cost down, but to not compromise quality and create a world class sound. Let me know when you find that excuse to get one

I will. I'd like to put that next to my R121 and see how it holds up.

I will. I'd like to put that next to my R121 and see how it holds up. It's definitely brighter than a R121, but still has all the classic ribbon tone on guitar amps. We'll hopefully have some comparisons with it on our website soon.

I'd think that a response like that would be more from the motor/transformer interaction.

tonycamphd and svart: The resonator plates are specifically designed to bring back the high end that is lost from the high freq roll off of the motor. Since the motor is very narrow, it's roll off begins at a fairly high frequency-somewhere in the 9-10 kHz range. Without the resonator plates the frequency is down about 4 dB at 13 kHz. The addition of the plates provides a boost of 7 dB centered at around 13 kHz, giving the mic its 3 dB boost at 13 kHz. The transformer helps to provide a clearer, more open high end, but the main reason behind the high end response is the resonator plates combined with the narrow motor design. Many imported ribbons use standard available stock perforated metal as resonator plates, but these plates really don't do anything because they are not designed to interact properly with the motor. Hope this helps clear it up!

Deni Impressive, a couple of questions. What can you tell me about the model 1 just out of curiosity .
I find the model 2 very interesting, could you tell us how you match pairs? Also if I were to buy a mic could I then at some point later purchase a matched mic? Also would I even really need a matched pair, how close are your general mics from one to another? Hats off for doing this in Detroit! I'm not a big made in the USA guy, but I admire anybody who takes a chance on an area that needs economic development and those gutsy enough be it Detroit, Ghana or Gaza!

Hats off for doing this in Detroit! I'm not a big made in the USA guy, but I admire anybody who takes a chance on an area that needs economic development and those gutsy enough be it Detroit, Ghana or Gaza! Thanks for your interest and we are definitely proud to be making our microphones in Detroit! The city is certainly making a come back and we're happy to be part of it. The Model 1 has more of a traditional ribbon sound, but still with an extended high end through the use of resonator plates. There is no boost around 13 kHz like in the Model 2, but the response does extend out to around 16 kHz before it begins to drop off. The transformer for the Model 1 is an Edcor rather than a Samar, which also imparts a different sound. All of our ribbons are tuned to a specific resonant frequency during tuning and are tested thoroughly to adhere to strict tolerances in sensitivity, noise, and frequency response. Any two microphones will sound 100% identical, but some people like to have consecutive serial numbers which we can provide them with. Hope this helps! -Deni
