Yaaay! Dudes been waiting a looooooong time for this bad boy! So Dave(Don's classics), has FINALLY made available his killer 500 series 1176 revA Diy kit! To my knowledge, this is a no compromise clone of the original audio circuit. check it out www.thedonclassics.com/u76a_diy.htmlApprox DIY pricing $200 for raw kit $186 for electronics BOM ? for meters/attenuators/switches/trafo's, $ to be determined, this secondary bundle will be provided by Hairball Audio, thanx Mike!

Nice. Hairball hasn't announced a price on their bundle for it yet, but before the Hairball parts it's sitting at around $520. I wonder how difficult it'll be to make.

Even if its the british pound, it would be just over $400? not including hairballs stuff. Let me know how i screwed up this time lol!

Yeah I messed up my math I think somehow I got a total of £325 but it should be as follows: £149 for the kit + £116 for mouser cart = £265 = roughly $405US. I also was assuming US and Can$ were closer than they apparently are again. I had actually converted to CAN$. Just quoted that number. Not sure where the heck I got the £325/$520 from. This makes it an even better offer than I thought now!

Is the 19" Hairball 1176 that cheap? Somebody give me a link...Rack space would be one reason...

john, make the "real diy" thread a sticky so it stays afloat over there, the hairball link is in that 1st post, along with a bunch of other stuff.
the hairball unit will run about the same as the 500 unit, but they have ALL the revisions, not just revA. The Dons is all about space saving IMV
I built/building 8 hairball units, 6 rev D's and 2 rev A's in stereo pairs. Danderloos strereo case (collective cases)
I know i'm crazy

I totally plan to build at least one hairball (probably a revD), but I also would like one or two 1176 style comps in 500 series just for space and portability. It'd be convenient to have in a portable lunchbox channel strip that I could tote around wherever whenever.

Ordered two kits, have to wait on the Hairball order a bit,but will report back after building them. Since the NV73's (also donclassics) sound absolutely gorgeous,I have high expectations! Cheers Pieter

The innards of the Don classics package is mighty, mighty purdy! Mouser stuff arrived too, so only Hairball to go.
So as soon as I finish my console recapping ('bout one and a half week more..) it's Don time!

This looks pretty damn cool!
All this DiY 500-series stuff is making me itch for a rack (I'm probably the only guy here who doesn't have one, ha!)

Hey @pgkloos, can you link what materials you have to order? I'm always scared I'm gonna miss something and having someone that's already done it would be a big help! Thanks!

Its pretty easy, actually, since David made a so called "Mouser cart" www.thedonclassics.com/u76adiybom.html (U76A Mouser Cart at around the middle of the page) They delivered to me in 2 days. We Dutch people call that "fast" :-) Little above that link is the link to Hairball with their parts of the kit,but that won't be available till around the 25th. For Mouser you'll need to open an account with them, same with Hairball, but that's peanuts. In case you don't want to use Mouser, or have a different supplier, there's always the BOM, wich is also accurate. Doesn't get much better! Cheers,Pieter
