I've always been intrigued with D19s and have a few later AKG dynamics that I'm told by JJ Blair are in the neighborhood. JJ has a good number of D19s and is one of the people in the online sphere who seems to really have done a deep dive on them. When I saw the Warm Tease for 2 new mics, one was obviously a 44 clone, and I though the other was hitting Royer land. I got a text from one friend and an email from the other today and was quite surprised to see the D19 in the mix. Check It OutI'm not sure if I'm willing to put down the bread, Warm always worries me, but this is awful tempting!

I had one bad experience with Warm hardware and can simply not shake the feeling their stuff leans more low quality 'prosumer' in a Behringer way even though they are priced more like Heritage, Advanced Audio, or AudioScape or similar in price. That said I really like my KT-2As especially with the Kenetek T4B in em, so def not a gear snob. Ha! Something about Warm just feels off for me.

I was talking to a Warm dealer a while ago and he pointed out that there are to distinct groups of Warm buyers. 1. Guys who have never used but listed after the real deal based on folklore, who love the fact they can afford their white wales. 2. The guys who know the real deal buy the Warm, left craving the real deal and driving up vintage prices.
So yeah for the price it would be nuts not to give it a try, but you’re most likely going to end up hunting for vintage.

I mean, I would never buy anything they make new because their resale value is terrible. Probably because they're such a pariah on the boards. Personally, I don't really see much difference between Warm, Heritage, Lindell and BLA. Warm catches way more grief.
The 4312 is a very solid API clone, great for drums. The 47 is really good on some voices. I had a good experience with the 1176 the one time I worked at a place that had one.

Woah! As an owner of zero Warm products... and owner of a handful of AKG D19s.... I have to say this has me intrigued.

I’ve been burned twice on D-19 purchases over the years. That mic hates me and the universe doesn’t want me to own one.
Looks cool though!

I've used one a bunch at a friend's studio and it sounds great. Also, if you look inside, each pre is on an individual card as opposed to a single board, which could lend itself to easier repairs/less down time. Said friend also has an WA-76 and it sounds like an 1176 to me. Anyway, watched their promo vid... didn't love it on drums or electric guitar, but it sounded great on the acoustic and Wurli.

A bit off topic but figured someone here would know. Are the D19 slots performing a similar function as the old EV RE(10-18) mics?

This is reminding me that I own an AKG D125, and that’s a cool mic in its own right.

A bit off topic but figured someone here would know. Are the D19 slots performing a similar function as the old EV RE(10-18) mics? one of the press releases said something about the vents reducing proximity effect - so I'd say there is a 50/50 chance of them being there for functionality or just because it looks more like the original.

They are absolutely there for function, like the EVs. The variable HPF on the WA19 (and I assume D19) actual close some or all of the vents to perform the high passing.

I'm just curious. one would think that they are there for functional reasons, but I've also noticed that aesthetics are huge with clone makers.

The...90's 'behringeseque' approach to 'cloning' is not for everyone's taste. Prior to them going so far as using trade dress of current production gear from small independent builders who are still working to support their own employees, families etc, I could stomach them. Now, I just cannot get myself to buy from them. Tobias gets a pass for many reasons, primarily his contribution to the community in so many other ways over the years. And BLA and Heritage both innovate and design as well as offer takes on vintage.

They really went all out on these latest releases. Bryce is a good dude. I've met and talked with him on several occasions. Not sure what small independent builders he is cloning. Fulltone? They were out of business for a good while. Someone mentioned they skimp on quality control for customer service. Either way, you're going to get something that works and sounds the way it is supposed to. I've had their 47 for several years, and it has been a great addition to my mic collection. These two will be hard to pass up!

Warm Audio is a good, smart company that fills a valid niche in the pro audio world. People have been whining about them since they came onto the scene because they're (I'm going to use a cringe-fully overused term here) disruptive. You didn't used to be able to get an 1176 of any kind for less than, what, $1500? There's like $200 worth of parts in an 1176. They're not doing the same thing as the high end boutique companies, that's a different niche. But to be able to get solid hardware that works and offers a lot of the sonics of the classics for blue collar money is cool. I've still got a pair of WA76 and they do a great job. I had and liked the WA412 (also had/liked a pair of WA12 when they first came out) and I've had lots of other Warm stuff that's come and gone. I understand the difference between them and, say, Chandler, or even Stam/Audioscape. It's a different thing. Difference in paradigm, difference in design/manufacturing process, difference in sonics. But I think there's way too much cork-sniffing about Warm Audio. If you've got a studio full of high end gear that you've spent decades amassing and love dearly...great, Warm is not for you. For my wants/needs, companies like Stam/Audioscape/IAA are the go-to. But if you're starting out, or just on a tighter budget, Warm Audio has a lot to offer, in my view.

I agree that Warm fills that "affordable" spot pretty well. I had a pair of WA-87's (the first version) but eventually sold them as I had other mics I liked better. And they almost get there... but there's always compromises at this price point. They do a really good job of making their clones look like the originals - and that is absolutely important to the market they are in. Heck, you see the same thing with plugins. I can think of a bunch of mics that are made to "sound like" another mic (and I probably own some), but don't look anything like them, and probably don't sell as well because of that (at least again, not in that market). But just look in my studio and I have very few "original" hardware items (zero Neve or Neumann logos...) - most everything I have is a clone or inspired by something else, so I'm totally for it.

When I clicked on this and saw the price, I thought maybe it was broken and just for parts. Then I read the title and saw it’s just the freaking BOX. 😂

Well from my perspective, I used AKG's 60s mics and they were great- the studio demo of Warm's 19 seems really good and at USD $199 there's no big risk IMO. Cheers, Ross
