Wonder what this thing "sounds like"? The source? you have to wonder why it's $3000. jimwilliams I saw a GS thread that you participated in that was discussing this, Burl and the merits of clean vs. colored conversion. I have to say that a lot of guys I respected from GS (Gyang, Ivo, etc) really thought the Forsell was the shit...What's your take on it vs. the Ross Martin, Jim? I guess you guys have kind of made me a believer in Ross Martin - hey, the proof was in the pudding when I heard the 1794 I bought. I'm kinda weighing buying the 4222/superbeast package and really shooting it out with the Burl (in the new year I would assume). My only hesitancy is that 95% of the time! my experience has been that you get what you pay for.

Fred has morphed from a tube and transformer guy to Uhber clean, John not sure how much of a differance you would notice from the full blown Ross Martin, but your checkbook would notice!

I'm not jim 8) but you said it yourself, the proof is in the pudding, the super beast has the best chipsets available implemented at a 1 to 1 ratio track to chip, including power supplies, based on that and the fact that everyone whos touched one says the same wow! I'd do it in a second if i was in the market for a stereo AD/DA. And i know i sound like a broken record, but id bet dollars to donuts if you put the superbeast through a pair of missing links, it would out do the burl "thing" and it's "proprietary" cheater wound transformers of 1:1.5 or what ever it is? at less than 1/2 the price. There is virtually no doubt that a missing link is way more versatile and powerful in the discrete/transformer euphony way, than the burl and it's "proprietary" tranny. I would love to see this shootout done by someone...anyone...please? (sorry bout the burl slag, but if a company doesn't disclose the spec info, i'm suspicious of them, besides.. are there such things as proprietary transformers anymore? its a pill i just haven't been able to swallow) That said, i've had my hands on neither rig, i have NO doubt the burl sounds GREAT, i just think on paper the SB/ML combo would almost certainly have to sound better?... again at 1/2 the $

Who is using that part? It's a 12 bit rf converter, won't be very impressive for audio.
Seems it's either BurrBrown or ESS chipsets are used in the better sounding stuff. Some like Bricasti use the AD converters. All are 24 or 32 bit designs.

Yeah, it wasn't an audio converter, but it's 3Gsps.. I thought you guys required the use of RF devices before you thought something was good enough? You know, so you can hear the atoms vibrating or something? It's also 5300$ a piece in 100 quantities which I thought would be funny for you..
