If you're mixing with outboard, I know many are, I wanted to ask:
What DAW? How many sends to outboard? * How's the stability?
Thanks!
*not total pieces of outboard, just sends, even if several are chained in a send.

reaper with 16i/o via lynx.
16 sends to console channels via lynx and from there I've got over 64 channels to play with.
in the 4 years of using the lynx it has never let me down. ever! neither has reaper. it's never crashed ever.

Pro Tools 11 Native.
32 channels out through Midas VeniceF-32 with the 2 bus coming back into Pro Tools on a stereo track.
Stable.

HD24XR into an all analog mix path. Analog console, analog outboard.
Sounds like music, not cylons.

Reaper through SSL alphalink to a 24 channel console. All outboard as inserts to the mixer.

HD24XR into an all analog mix path. Analog console, analog outboard. Sounds like music, not cylons. I'm with Jim. Radar 24 with a 24 channel board with some select outboard stuff. (RADAR converters and analog stages ROCK!) I mix to tracks 23/24 on the RADAR. BIG sound! Need to get with him to find out if I am competent enough technically to pull and send my master section of my Toft 24 to improve the head room.

It's pretty much just a HDD tape deck.

yup i know that
very similar to RADAR.
I love the user interface, just like a 24track tape machine, but with some digital editing and take recalls. Just enough to be helpful, but not enough to get in the way of making music!
Although my old RADAR still has world class AD/DA in it, I am pretty convinced its big sounds come from very well designed analog interfaces.
In this age of digital, I think we too often overlook how well we are treating the analog representatives of our recording sources all through the chain.

my mix chain is full analogue because i believe it to sound better and that gets mixed to dsd. so come mix time i turn off the computer monitors and hit play.
i do track through tape and there i could use an auto align tool but haven't got that working as yet.

Cubase 6 and Pro Tools 11. 12 inputs and outputs all used as External Inserts on DAW channels. Now solid as a rock with two Aurora 16's synced with two RME AES HDSP interfaces with the Aurora as the clock..
