For years, I had three sets of monitors and would switch between them. When I got some LYD48 monitors a few years ago, I found I used the other monitors less and less. For the last year, I haven't even turned the others on and am looking to sell off what I don't use. Now, that's even more apparent with the Core 59 monitors I just got. So it got me wondering if I even need a second or third pair. Maybe something trashy like a Auratone? Or, maybe a single speaker? I sold one pair already but I still have three more pairs to sell. If I don't use them, why keep them?
How many monitors do you actually use?

2. Nearfields with some midbass and midrange detail. Sennhesier HS25 for electronic stuff. I'd use another Fostex 6301 if I could be bothered to buy the new ones.

Just Genelec 8341s with GLM, and I like to check with Sennheiser HD650 headphones.

I find it changes, sometimes the mains are feeling great and all goes well.
Usually I find a lot of benefit from switching to the NS10s (I just know them well but prefer not to work on them too long), and the single Auratone is never going to lie if I'm struggling with any balance issues.
I could do it all on the Amphions but almost always benefit with another reference. It's due to my brain though, not the monitors. I find I get used to a certain monitor's thing and another check is like listening with fresh ears in a way.

How many monitors do you actually use? Two - one for the Left, and one for the Right. JBL 708P's.

Dynaudio BM6a ii (90%) and Fluid FX80 (10%) and it might really be closer to 95/5. and I'll use Slate VSX when I'm confirming final mixes/masters (so that's maybe 2% of the time).

Two. The KH310s for pretty much everything, and usually earbuds for final tweaks these days.

I'm on JBL LSR32s as midfields with LSR6312p sub, always on. I have NS10s but haven't had them set up for a few months now and don't miss them. will probably add a set of small amphions one day.

Up at the big studio yesterday: big ATCs pretty much all day, turned on the CLA NS10s and quickly turned them off again. Sooooo boxy.
At home I use my Neumanns and my Hd650s and I check in my car eventually (for one thing it is nice to listen in a different physical/headspace).

Just a pair of Focal Shape Twins, Have a set of DT1770s for cans and a 25 year old pair of 770s. On a different computer system I use for my day job, I have a set of Pioneer S-DJ05s that I picked up cheap sometime ago. When I got serious about songwriting and learning to mix, I bought the Focals.
Quick funny story: when I got the Focals out of the blue and my wife asked how much I payed, I played a favorite song of hers on the Pioneers then I sat her in the mix position in front of the Focals and played the same song. After about 5 seconds she goes: Worth it, I don't need to know any more.

Three, the Westlakes in the wall, the penguin coffins on the meter bridge and the JVC 3D Hyper-Bass boom box. Could live without the Westlakes and Yomamas, they’ll bury me with the JVC.

No Monitors. (Gasp!) Just AKG 240 DF and 240 Studio. Sony MDR-V6's. Fine "enough" set up for Vocal Tracking IMHO... On the cheap. Chris

I used to have Truth Audio Ta1Ps and a cheap set of Rat Schack speakers, but the amp in now powering just the woofers of the 3-ways, and fed by DSP so it wouldn't work even with the speaker switcher. I will sometimes put the Studer A80r speaker in mono and check there, but not all the time.

Set of Yamaha HS5 as primary and Avantones for reference in the control room. HS5s are a nice fit for the smaller room and low ceilings.
Set of KRKs in the live room.
AKG and Beyerdynamic 'phones for tracking.

ATC 25’s (these are all I actually need)
Auratones
Sony 1990’s potable powered speakers (actually fantastic for shaping clarity in low mids)
Sennhesier HD 600’s

Got that PMC superstack as my main set up. Gives a sense of scale and reads out very accurately on depth of the recording. Very low distortion monitors. Mix is then adjudicated and quality controlled on the revealing Meyer AMIE monitors. I use ProAc Response 2S hi-fi speakers at home.

I do like the overall design heritage of Hudson’s monitors The PMC’s are the magic of great Volt drivers in a Transmission line cabinet, the Meyer’s .are from the Just as brilliant but more as a speaker system designer John Meyer. ProAc fit Hudson casual the guys who were building ATC systems before ATC.
