The only reason I'd pick this over Satin is to save cpu. It's probably the next best thing.

Great pricing, I guess they don't want to sell too many of them.

I had the old TDM version. I'll have to pull out some of the old iLoks and see if I can find it - $65 is definitely worth it. Dave Hill is very talented.

Happy to see the Beta has been tested on M1, and will have to try that without using rosetta on mine.
Phoenix 2 If I recall right, goes on sale not very often, but maybe once or twice a year briefly.

Looking forward to hearing how the VST is working out. David Hill was a genius. I hope this continues his legacy.

Nice!
I've always wanted this! This product page is giving me strong Geocities-in-1998 vibes. I half expect a dancing hamster GIF to pop up any second.

If $450 seems steep, the Ploytec Aroma plugin does a lot of the same things as the Phoenix. It appears it is based on the same principle. www.ploytec.com/aroma/

I'd wanted this one for years back in the day. Only tried it a few times (I rarely mix on ProTools). It was certainly good but can't comment much on it as it's been a while. Not sure how the price would warrant it - it'd be tough to beat Satin or whatever other saturation plugs I already have.

It's a really cool low cpu plug but honestly is just a collection of interesting polynomial wave shapers and soft clippers

It appears it is based on the same principle. www.ploytec.com/aroma/ Theres a thread on the purple site, where an ME matched Ploytec Aroma to his HEDD, and Phoenix when set to Gold plus Iridescent is the same as the Tape knob on the HEDD. Using those settings on the Aroma with Phoenix process set to 10, I cannot hear any difference. Interestingly Ploytec provide the USB drivers for Cranesong, I wonder if they did the programming for CS, there's no credits anywhere apart from the manual saying Phoenix was "crafted" by Dave Hill. Was DH a DSP programmer?

It's interesting that neither plugin has oversampling options in this day and age.

They need to do a special Dave Hill edition where the background is one of Dave’s Favorite Hawaiian shirt prints.

If you’re paying for a pro tools license you likely already have Heat which is useful and also a Dave Hill product.

Compared to something like u-he satin, softube tape, or goodhertz tupe, they’re just really old. Also not as weird as waves Kramer tape or the fuse tcs-68 cassette emulation where ray emulated dbx nr.
