I’m wondering if the transformerless performs better for modern music and mastering. Seems like the transformer introduces too much of a sonic footprint.

I had the transformer version. Then I got the transformerless version. The tranformerless version is better if someone wants more clarity, which I do on a whole mix. I would rather introduce more of the transformer footprint, which was notice on the obsidian, on a track or stem, but not a whole mix. Someone else may be perfectly correct in disagreeing with me for their particular use.
