fortunately for me, I have a bit of a lull for mixing so I'm not dying right now. I don't have ZDT, but if I can wait the seven days, should I just buy the coverage or am I too late since it's already dead?

also, has it always been just $30? it was more than that not so long ago, no? I feel like I wouldn't have balked at the coverage for just $30 but who knows? maybe i was always that cheap, tho?

I had one die. Never moved, non smoking, etc. As I recall to get it replaced under warranty was almost as much in shipping (to Canada) as just buying a new one.Major pita. Wishing you luck.
Cheers, Geoff

Oh the trials and tribulations of the iLok, always keep an extra hidden away in a drawer because no matter what kind of sacrifice you make to the ILok gods it’s going to go down at some point, hell even in my pimp days it was “ buy a backup with it, it’s not like the shipping is going to be any more with 2.”

I didn’t think most developers allowed you two installs? I guess some do?

I think pros should buy the coverage, as it gets you up and running asap.
For the rest of us, on an annual basis, pennies a day.

And you can use as many iLoks as the software activations allow. Modern plugins seem to be pretty understanding about the workflow at this point.

There is the freezer trick. Did you try that? A few minutes in the freezer and alot dongles work again, at least long enough to transfer the licenses.

I had one die 2 years ago, protected with ZDT which got me back up right away with temp licenses. Luckily it came back to life a day or two later, just briefly enough to swap all licenses over without having to send it in. And yeah, always been $30 for me.

Forgot to mention that I had an extra one with me, I always carried it and it saved my ass that day. When the backup went into service I purchased another one that I again now carry with me everywhere.

I hear there are people who buy legit software and then download cracked and hacked versions and use them instead . . . or so I've heard.

I have ZDT.
It cost $30 for an entire year - seems worth it to me.

I hear there are people who buy legit software and then download cracked and hacked versions and use them instead . . . or so I've heard. They say the cracked versions work better. Less memory. There's still a few things I use that haven't been cracked. PA and Acustica protection are supposed to be the most intrusive and obstructive. I thought I left my Ilok 2 behind when I moved even though that and my flash drives were really important, so I got an Ilok3 before I found them in the suitcase. These were old suitcases I got at Goodwill that were not too intuitive in their designs. If my Ilok3 ever went down, does anyone here know if I could just erase and reuse the disabled Ilok2?

You should be able to run both, why not plug in the ilok 2, see if they power up and see if Ilok manager recognizes them?

I hear there are people who buy legit software and then download cracked and hacked versions and use them instead . . . or so I've heard. "Buy the plug, run the crack" The working professionals credo in 2005. Brutal time. Software protection - newly developing, evasive, system crippling and did I mention system crippling? Behind the scenes, every ME I knew was forced to work that way. You needed the license to get support for the crack. iLok Machine ID system wide has been flawless here. And it's not isolated to a physical stick, I can move the activation licenses anywhere if needed. Wavelab Pro and Spectralayers Pro were moved over to Machine ID last year when I upgraded but Cubase 13 upgrade was still required to be on a dongle here for some reason.

I have two iloks. I can't think of a single plugin I have that doesn't have multiple licenses available, so I just put one set on one iloks and another set on the other.
I've never needed to swap the first one out, thankfully.

Score one for the freezer trick!! Didn’t realize there were some plugs that needed the physical ilok these days. So I have to live without Altiverb for a couple days but I’ll manage
